When I came home from work, Cortney and Sean were out in the front yard. Sean was a little confused when I drove into the garage, as he as rarely sees me in my car. But, when I got out of the car, he ran over to give me a rock he had carefully selected from the yard.

President Bush may not be the most eloquent speaker, but I thought this was well stated: When I take action, he said, I’m not going to fire a $2 million missile at a $10 empty tent and hit a camel in the butt. It’s going to be decisive.

The terrorists have won the first battle, and I am worried we are losing the second. I am talking about our loss of freedom, not from the terrorists, but from our own government. New bills being proposed will ban strong encryption, ignoring the fact that strong encryption is crucial to our finance industry. The FBI and Justice Department are trying to install surveillance systems to read our email. And, in my opinion, the most ridiculous are the new airport restrictions. None of the new restrictions will have the least impact on preventing another terrorist hijacking similar to the previous ones, yet airport travellers are being delayed by hours anyway. Preventing people from bringing scissors, tweezers, and knitting needles will not stop people smuggling ceramic or plastic knives. I recommend either arming the pilots, or stationing an armed marshall on all flights until we can beef up the cockpit door and implement electronic equipment to prevent diverting a plane from its planned route.
