January 26, 2002 on 7:42 pm | In Main |I replaced the power supply in Cortney’s computer. I first noticed a problem when I converted that computer from my machine to Cortney’s machine. The fan in the power supply started to make a strange noise. At that time, a tap on the side of the computer case solved the problem. That machine was on continuously, so even thought it is only a year and a half old, the power supply has had a decent workout. About a week ago, the fan started to make the noise again. I was able to get the computer to limp along for the week by taking the power supply out and turning it upside down. I’m certain that one of the bearings for the fan has failed. At any rate, I replaced the power supply with a nice 300 Watt model. The old one was only 235 Watts, so the new one should run without any strain at all. It definitely runs quieter, and I’m hoping the extra power will provide more stability to the computer as well. It was an easy job to accomplish. It only took ten minutes or so to perform the replacement
