Sean and I braved the cold waters of the swimming pool again tonight. The pool water was a degree or two warmer, so Sean was able to withstand another few minutes before he started shivering. I noticed that by staying in the water, it wasn’t so bad. Sean of course, has to continuously go in and out of the water, so he gets cold much faster.

The high temperature was 104 degrees today. It was hot enough outside that I decided to take Sean into the pool rather than walk over to the park. Sean squealed with excitement when I brought him out to the pool. Unfortunately, the pool was a little chilly, with the water temperature around 74 degrees. I had to take Sean inside and warm him up after about 10 minutes. In case you are wondering how anyone could be cold with temperatures over 100, the pool water evaporates immediately in the dry weather, cooling you off further.

We celebrated Mother’s Day by taking Cortney out to breakfast. Unfortunately, we got up a bit too early in order to avoid the rush at Denny’s. Sean and I were both cranky for most of the day.

Ocean’s Eleven

The second movie of the weekend was Ocean’s Eleven. I really enjoyed this movie. I didn’t see the original, but I thought the plot and directing were well done. I did think that overacting on the part of some of the stars — George Clooney, Julia Roberts, and Andy Garcia — made the movie less than it could have been. I rate this movie an A-.

Joy Ride

The first movie of the weekend was Joy Ride. Cortney picked this one. This movie was too close to the slasher genre, which I don’t particulary care for. The story was a bit different, so if you want a different take from the typical horror movie, it might be worthwhile to see. I rate this movie a C.

Today was company day at the Castles N’ Coasters park. This is a small amusement park with roller coasters, rides, miniature golf, and an arcade. The company paid for free admission with unlimited access to the rides, free drinks, and a barbecue lunch. We did the same thing last year, but I had a bad stomach virus, so I watched Sean while Cortney went on all of the rides. This year, we were all able to participate. I enjoyed the big roller coaster there, and Sean had fun on the carousel. Sean was also able to go on the kiddie rides. On these rides, he had to sit by himself. He was a little nervous at first, but then enjoyed it. Sean also had fun playing with the fountains in the park.

Even though it was hot outside, we all went to the park after I came home from work. A decent breeze made the 95 degree temperature bearable. As we arrived, some workers had just finished putting a cover over the new playground. The cover was more like a tent, and was made out of some time of fabric or nylon. I’m interested to see if the covering will survive the monsoon season. Sean didn’t mind the heat, and he had fun on the swings and the slides.

With the time spent on Sean’s haircut, and a trip to Wal-Mart, we didn’t have time for our usual trip to the park.

Sean hit a major milestone tonight. We were able to get Sean a haircut without Sean crying. He was a little upset towards the end when the pieces of hair were starting to irrate his face, but other than that, he sat quietly. This is also his first haircut that is actually straight, as the lady who cut his hair was able to take her time.

I still chuckle when I think about Rush Limbaugh’s comment that we should start negotiating with the pipe bomb suspect and offer him land for peace.

We went to the park again tonight. This time, Sean did spend quite a bit of time on the new playground equipment. He had plenty of company; the park was crowded again tonight. When we started walking home, I was walking in the street to avoid the trash containers that were still out, since Wednesday is trash day. I was surpised to see Sean pull me back onto the sidewalk. Apparently, he knows to walk on the sidewalk and not in the street.

The new playground at the park has finally been finished. Surprisingly enough, Sean showed very little interest. The park was very busy, with at least six families there. Sean still prefers the tallest slides.

Sean was his typical self tonight. He was a little cranky around dinner, but this was probably due to the effects of the anti-biotic on his digestive system. Sean did have a good time at the park. They finally put down the paving near the new playset, and they still had the area roped off. Sean kept trying to run under the rope.

One of cats, Zip, was sick this evening, vomiting numerous times. What makes this interesting is that we found a scorpion in the house near where Zip was sick. This is the first scorpion we have found this year. We normally get half a dozen or so inside the house each year. Unfortunately, this type of scorpion is fairly poisonous. While not deadly, they can certainly ruin your day. Maybe that’s what happend to Zip.

Are you a thief? Just to show how far the recording and music industries want to go over the copyright issue, you are a thief if you get up from watching television to go to the bathroom during a commercial break. Here is an interesting site with a parady and insight on a recent speach by one of the cable network executives.
