June 23, 2002 on 8:21 pm | In Main | No CommentsHere’s another picture of me on the unicycle, this time wearing the hydration backpack I received from my parents as a birthday gift.

I actually went on my first “trip” on the unicycle today. I went around the long block around the house, which is about a half mile distance.

June 22, 2002 on 7:28 pm | In Main | No CommentsToday was a nice relaxing day. I needed to recover from the past week, which in retrospect, was more stressful than I realized at the time. Sean and I went for a nice long swim in the pool this afternoon. He had many toys in the pool to play with, but what he wanted to play with the most was the new pool thermometer. I tried to discourage Sean from playing with thermometer, since the last one more than likely broke from being thrown around too often. But I guess Sean wants the most what he can’t have.

June 21, 2002 on 8:13 pm | In Main | No CommentsIt was a much cooler day today, with a high temperature of only 109 degrees. Sean and I took a trip to the air-conditioned Price Club after dinner. We still had enough time to watch an entire Iron Chef episode befor it was time for Sean to go to bed.

June 20, 2002 on 7:50 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean seems to be doing better. He drank his milk tonight without any problem. I still think he misses his granma and great aunt.

June 20, 2002 on 7:41 pm | In Main | No CommentsI think the supreme court made a bizarre decision today. The court ruled that a mentally retarded person could not be executed. Does this mean someone with an IQ of 71 can be executed, but someone with an IQ of 70 can’t? What is going to keep someone in a capital murder trial from deliberately scoring low on an IQ test? I think a jury should make the decision, not the court, with mental retardation being a mitigating factor against the death penalty.

June 19, 2002 on 7:39 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean went another night without his evening milk. I wonder if he has a stomach ache. I’ve been feeling a little gas-y for the last day or so, and Sean might have the same thing. He went to bed crying again tonight.

June 19, 2002 on 7:36 pm | In Main | No CommentsI finally picked my car up from the shop. The door now works, and the car is running nicely. It was great to be able to pull into the garage after coming home from work. I had left the garage door opener in my car when it was in the shop, so I was parking the loaner car in the driveway. It was a hot day today, with a high of 112 degrees, the hottest day this year. After a long day at work and a long drive home from the car dealer, I was too tired to go out to the pool and cool off. Maybe tomorrow.

June 18, 2002 on 8:20 pm | In Main | No CommentsThis is a so called “scientific” article that looks to me like pure propaganda. The error in math is so egregious that I believe the article is deliberately intended to deceive people, as opposed to incompetent research. The article states that the cost to slow down the world economies to reduce greenhouse gases would result in the world population having the same wealth in 2102 as opposed to 2100, a two year difference. In reality, this kind of economic setback would put the world in a severe depression for perhaps a decade. The economic growth stated in the article would never get started to even achieve the wealth levels by 2102. I have a much simpler suggestion to the problem of global warming. Use technology to reduce the green house gases. Not only would we not need to slow down the economy, but growth might actually increase from the effects of alternate uses of the technology. Of course, this wouldn’t advance the hidden agenda of the so-called environmentalists of tearing down western civilization as we know it today.

June 18, 2002 on 8:06 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean went swimming twice today. Cortney took Sean into the pool this afternoon, and I took him into the pool this evening. He still enjoys swimming under the water. Unfortunately, something must have bothered Sean this evening. He didn’t want to have anything to do with his evening milk, and he was very fussy when we put him to bed. Maybe he just misses the company he has had for the last week.

June 18, 2002 on 8:02 pm | In Main | No CommentsCortney’s mom and aunt left for West Palm Beach this morning. I’m sure Sean will miss them. I decided to get up early and finish the repair on the garage door opener. It made more sense to do the work when the garage temperature was 80 degrees rather than 100 degrees. The work went smoothly, and I had everything finished by the time Cortney came back from the airport. The garage door now closes with much less force than it used to, so I’m hoping it continues to work for many years.

June 17, 2002 on 9:52 pm | In Main | No CommentsI’m 0 for 2 in repairs today. I was able to drive my car to the shop without any problems, but they weren’t able to finish in time. Also, the new part arrived for the garage door today. I spent two hours working on the garage door. I have the new part installed correctly, but I need some more time to finish adjusting the door. At least I have the rental car to drive into work tomorrow, and I don’t mind leaving the rental car out in the driveway for the night. Everything should be back to normal tomorrow.

June 16, 2002 on 9:09 pm | In Main | No CommentsI spent most of the day today relaxing. I did do some light yardwork, so I wasn’t completely lazy. Cortney’s aunt treated us to a nice meal at a nearby mexican restuarant. As a father, I received a free cap to celebrate Dia de los Padres. We had a nice relaxing swim after dinner.
Black Hawk Down
June 15, 2002 on 5:39 pm | In Movie Reviews | No CommentsWe watched Black Hawk Down last night. I had trouble watching this movie. I thought it was very disturbing watching our finest soldiers die in a situation where they weren’t in position to defend themselves properly. This was made an even more powerful experience due to the realistic war scenes. Still, this was a must see movie, so I rate in an A.
Buy it.
In case you were wondering about last week’s movies, we had company on Saturday night, and Cortney couldn’t find a movie worth renting, so we went the weekend without watching any movies.

June 15, 2002 on 5:29 pm | In Main | No CommentsCortney and I are going over to a friend’s house for a little bit of a late birthday celebration. Leslie and Cindy will be watching Sean while we will be gone. Since we will be leaving around dinner time, we took Sean into the pool this afternoon. The water temperature is holding around 90 degrees, so it was warm enough for Cortney to join Sean and I. Sean had fun playing with a rubber duck with a short piece of string attached to it. We have two other rubber ducks, but they don’t have the string attached, so Sean ignores those. He also has fun diving under the water. I guess Sean likes pulling the duck with the string, and also pulling the duck up out of the water with the string. He is getting to the point that he actually gets upset if he doesn’t have the opportunity to go under the water. I am letting Sean hold his breath for at least 10 seconds now.
