Sean’s word of the day is “rock”. It’s getting tougher to determine what Sean’s new words are. He is starting to repeat much of what we say. I’m going to save the new word distinction for when he clearly knows the context of the word.

I spent the morning trimming the mesquite trees in the front yard. I cut down all of the branches that were starting to hit the house, and thinned out some of the summer growth. I ended up with thee big piles in front of the house.

Iraq says it is no Afghanistan. I happen to agree with this statment. Iraq is a complete military pushover compared to the Taliban. Iraq has no battle trained soldiers and more hospitable terrain. What Iraq does have is a threat of WMD against Israel and even their own citizens. This doesn’t seem to me like much of a position to be making any threats.

Cortney and I were a couple tonight, the first time in a long while. We went out to dinner this evening, and then took a walk through the mall. Leslie stayed home and watched Sean.

An online article critizing Michael Powell. I do disagree with the statement of his “ideological approach”. Unless, of course, his ideology bring back the telecom world to the 1970’s. He doesn’t seem to understand the impact of digital technology, and doesn’t seem to think anything of monopolies. What kind of ideology is that?

Sean said “please” when I gave him his evening milk.

Not much happened today, at least for me. Cortney and Leslie made dinner, so way all sat at the kitchen table for a nice get together. At least for a little while. Sean ran off before he finished his plate. Sean’s energy level seems to peak right at dinner time. I’m looking forward to the cooler weather, when Sean can burn off his energy at the park.

More home repair woes. The refrigerator isn’t dispensing any water or ice. This is all the more of the problem since the water filter under the kitchen sink broke. The refrigerator manual says we just need to replace the water filter, so hopefully this will fix the problem.

Cortney’s mom, Leslie, flew in for a few days for a Sean visit. We all went out to a nice dinner at the Claim Jumper restaurant. Sean was very well behaved at dinner, and he quietly ate some crackers and some pasta, and even put a few other foods in his mouth for a taste.

More home repair woes. I tried fixing the broken shower door handle with super glue. The outside handle broke off on the inside, just past the end of the screw threads, so I couldn’t just screw it back in. The bottle of glue was poorly designed. I had to hold the broken piece in one hand and put the glue on with the other hand. I had to apply the glue horizontly onto the part, and when I squeezed the bottle, too much came out. I ended up dribbling the glue over my fingers, as well as getting a few drops on the bath mat and a drop on the outside of the door. It took me 20 minutes of scraping with I knife just to remove most of the glue off my fingers.

We are having a tough time preventing Sean from treating the sofa and couch as a jungle gym. Sometimes, we have to put him in time-out for 4 or 5 times in a row before he gets the message. I hope this is just a short term thing.

No new words for Sean again today. I tried to get him to say “rice”, but he couldn’t quite pronounce it correctly. I also thought I heard him say “cow”, but I could not get Sean to repeat it.

Another hot day today, with a high of 110 degrees. It was also very dry, which is unusual for August. Cortney took Sean into the pool to cool off. With the dry weather the pool temperature has stayed in the low 80’s. Sean was shivering when he came in from the pool.

Sean’s words for the day are “mouse”, “boo”, and “wall”.
