September 23, 2002 on 6:57 pm | In Main | No CommentsIt looks like a new political movement is starting, called “Not in Our Name”. Here is a copy of a full page add run in the NYT. I think this groups message should be “We Hate Bush”. It appears their message is just whining; It looks like they don’t have a constructive approach to either terrorism or Iraqi WMDs. Or, maybe they are just left wing wackos with no coherent thought whatsoever.

September 23, 2002 on 6:52 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean was certainly full of energy tonight. He was practilly bouncing off the walls when I arrived home from work this evening. Unfortunately, with a high of 108 degrees, it was too hot to let Sean outside to play.
The Birthday Girl
September 22, 2002 on 8:20 pm | In Movie Reviews | No CommentsThe second movie of the weekend was Birthday Girl. This movie was about an Englishman’s ordeal with a mail order bride. Nicole Kidman played the mail order bride. I didn’t think she could play a Russian girl, but she wasn’t too bad. The movie was at least interesting, so I rate it a B.
Buy it.

September 22, 2002 on 8:14 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean may now have the vocabulary he needs to complete his tiolet training. After dinner this evening, he ran around yelling “potty, potty”. Sure, enough, he had one.

September 22, 2002 on 8:13 pm | In Main | No CommentsTo further celebrate Cortney’s birthday, we went out to dinner. We went to the Olive Garden, which was Cortney’s choice. Sean came close to eating a full meal of restaurant food. He ate croutons and carrots from the salad, and had some pasta and an entire breadstick from the main course. We did give Sean some applesauce that we brought from home to round out his meal.

September 22, 2002 on 6:51 pm | In Main | No CommentsToday of, of course, is the first day of Fall. It is also Cortney’s 34th birthday, and Sean’s 31 month birthday. To celebrate, we decided to take a day trip to the town of Wickenburg, about an hour outside of the city. We went to an apple orchard, so that Sean could pick some apples. We had trouble finding the place, and if I didn’t get the number of the internet, and we didn’t have the cell phone with us, we would not have found it. The orchard was off a highway in the middle of nowhere, on a 3 mile drive on a dirt road in the middle of the desert. We taught Sean a few words on the way there. He knows “mountains”, and also “cactus, wow!”. We had fun once we found the place. Here is a picture of Sean picking an apple:

September 21, 2002 on 9:44 pm | In Main | No CommentsThe first movie of the weekend was The Rookie. This wasn’t the best baseball movie I have seen, but it has some good moments. I thought the movie did a good job of building up the excitement and awe of pitching in a major league baseball game. It took a while to get to this point though, as the movie was a slow in developing. I rate this movie a B.

September 21, 2002 on 9:40 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean and I had fun in the park again tonight. Sean did well at the monkey bars, and he was able to hold himself up for about 5 seconds on two attempts. Sean also had fun playing with the other children at the park.

September 20, 2002 on 10:24 pm | In Main | No CommentsThis article is one of the best I have read on the copyright issue. I’m still amazed at how a business can be carried out by stealing the rights from music artists and then turning around and accusing 70 million of your consumers of stealing.

September 20, 2002 on 10:20 pm | In Main | No CommentsWe had slightly cooler temperatures today, almost Fall-like. I tried taking Sean out for a walk, but he immediately ran to the garage door and pointed at the numeric keypad entry. I wondered why he would do that, until I realized he wanted me to take him for a carriage ride. We had a late start, but that allowed us to see both the sunset and the full moon rise over the horizon. I gave him a ride over to the park, where Sean again worked on his vocabulary while playing on the equipment. He can now clearly say “slide” and “swing”. Just before he starts down the slide, he says “go”. On the way home, we worked on “stop” and “go”. After demonstrating the words, I was able to get Sean to command “stop” and “go”, and I would follow his orders. It took us a while to get home, but we had fun doing it.

September 19, 2002 on 7:54 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean’s word of the day is “bike”. He is fascinated when I ride the exercise bike first thing in the morning. When I finished my workout this morning, Sean said “all done bike”. I was suprised to see Sean apply the word “bike” to his tricycle as well.

September 18, 2002 on 8:02 pm | In Main | No CommentsCortney has come down with a cold. The cold has sapped what little energy she has left over after her eighth month of pregnancy. Sean appears to have a bit of a runny nose, but no loss of energy. I tried to give Cortney a break by watching Sean this evening.

September 18, 2002 on 8:00 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean knows the letters “B” and “Q”. If you point to them, he can say them. Sean’s phrase of the day is “all day long”.

September 17, 2002 on 9:08 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean is getting to be very good at repeating what we say. It’s almost to the point where he is saying to many new words to mention here.

September 17, 2002 on 9:06 pm | In Main | No CommentsI think Sean might be giving us some clues as to when he is having his bowel movements. He says ooh-wee (as in ooh-wee, that stinks) for a few times before he actually goes. He then runs out of the room so he can have a little bit of privacy. I’m going to watch Sean carefully tomorrow night to see if he repeats the pattern. I think it would be a big plus for Sean to use the toilet, and use just a few pieces of toilet paper to clean him up, as opposed to the messy task of cleaning up after a full dirty diaper.
