We all went to the zoo today. We let Sean walk and run around on his own, so we saw the zoo at his pace. I think we spent more time in the play areas and running around than we did watching the animals. I think Sean was most fascinated with the zebras. He asked to see them by name. When we went to the zebra area, we initially did not see any animals. Just as we were leaving, three zebras came running over the hill, and right up to the fence. Sean was scared at first, then be came fascinated with the animals. On a sad note, the zoo’s rhino died just recently. The rhino was 42 years old, and died of cancer. We had just seen the rhino two weeks ago.

Cortney’s mom, Leslie, flew into town today. We spent the morning cleaning the house, and didn’t have much time to do anything else today.

Ethan slept well last night. It took awhile for Ethan to go to sleep, but once he did, he went seven hours before waking up to be fed. I had almost six hours of uninterrupted sleep myself! Even better, he went back to sleep right after finishing his bottle after that. I wasn’t woken up until Sean came downstairs after he woke up.

I’m starting to get referrer spam. This is where a web page links to my page, then uses the link to access my web site. This link then shows up in my referrer logs. One of these pages was a p0rn site, the other was some advertising site. I’m assuming that a bot performs all this linking, because I can’t imagine a human going through all of that trouble just so a web owner can click once on the referrer link to get to someone’s web page.

Sean is 33 months old today, and Ethan is six weeks old. We think Ethan now has the colic. Yesterday, it was as if someone flipped a switch. Ethan turned into an easily consoled baby to a very fussy baby, crying a lot. I think I’m in for a real challenge this evening. I have even brought out the hairdryer, which we used to put Sean to sleep when he was going through this stage. On a positive note, I think this means that Ethan is now aware of his surroundings, and realizes he can demand attention if he wants it.

Not much to report today. Ethan was a little cranky, but Sean was in a good mood. Sean had fun in the ball pit at the play area at the local burger king.

Sean had an action packed day today. He started off with his early intervention session. He strung a bead for the first time today. After that, he went to Jeepers, which had free rides this morning. He has been talking about Jeepers all week long, so I know he was excited about his trip. This evening, he had fun at the park. The park was empty this evening, which was strange, since it was a few degrees warmer today. So, I followed Sean around the playground, going down the slides right after he did. Sean squealed in excitement the whole time I was doing this, and was visibly disappointed when I sat down on the park bench to take a breather. Ethan had fun at the park as well. He was awake the entire time, and enjoyed looking around the park surroundings.

I ordered a book from amazon recently, and I was disappointed to find that they had sent the wrong item. I can’t even imagine what the person who ordered “Remarkable Trees of the World” will think when they get a book on Dynamic HTML.

I think the homeland security bill should have been named the government bureaucratic security bill. It appears to me that this is nothing more than a superficial reorganization of government agencies. I’m not against the reorganization, but I think the effort should have started with the intelligence communities. The CIA, NSA and FBI are unaffected by this new bill. I read a commentary somewhere on the internet that I found interesting. The problem with the intelligence agencies is, er well, lack of intelligence. The political correctness movement has allowed the intelligence agencies to be staffed with people of no more than average intelligence. To be effective, the intelligence community needs to be staffed with people of superior intelligence. Given the way the government operates, the only way this could occur in our lifetimes is to fold the existing agencies and start over.

Sean and I spent two hours at the library this evening. Sean, of course, played with the trains there the whole time, and I managed to do some reading while keeping an I on him.

Ethan was very attentive to his surroundings this evening. I held in after I arrived home from work, and it seemed like he spent 20 minutes studying my face. Ethan is starting to have good neck control. He can easily lift his head 45 degrees.

We all went to the park this evening. It was a clear and pleasantly cool evening, and we had a nice moon rise. When the tip of the moon appeared, you could almost see it move as it cleared the nearby mountain. Sean had some company at the playground, and Ethan took a nice nap.

The movie of the weekend was Impostor. This was a decent science fiction movie, with an almost standard plot. The movie did have a nice double twist at the end. Stay away from it if your are not a science fiction fan, otherwise, it is worth your time. I rate it a B.

Buy it.

Sean’s speaking skills continue to improve. I guess I’m starting to get predictable, as when he starts misbehaving, he says “No, get down” or “No, don’t touch”, before I even have a chance to say it myself.

Ethan and I had a tough time last night. Ethan was waking up every three hours. He seemed to be really hungry, and gulping his milk down too fast. He would then spit up or get the hiccups, and have trouble finishing his bottle. I ended up getting a nasty headache from waking up too often.
