November 16, 2002 on 10:28 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean is starting to get jealous of the attention given to his brother. When we feed Ethan, Sean frequently misbehaves to get attention. I’m hoping that this is a stage he goes through quickly. He’s not all bad; sometimes Sean just climbs up onto the sofa on the side opposite from the baby, and leans against my shoulder.

November 16, 2002 on 7:54 pm | In Main | No CommentsToday was spent getting caught up on sleep. For me, sleep is like a bank account. I can make withdrawals, but eventually, I need to balance the account, by making a deposit. Today was spent making that deposit.

November 16, 2002 on 7:49 pm | In Main | No CommentsI dressed Ethan in the same outfit that he wore home from the hospital. At that time, he was practically swimming in it. Now, it fits him just right.

November 15, 2002 on 9:40 pm | In Main | No CommentsCortney took Sean to the Burger King play area this evening, while I stayed home and watched Ethan. When Sean came home, he told me all about the ball pit and the slides.

November 15, 2002 on 9:37 pm | In Main | No CommentsA first for Barry’s Daily Web News, a Book Review! I had just finished Atlas Shrugged, by Ayn Rand, and thought it deserved a review. The review was long enough that I decided to put it on the stories page.

November 14, 2002 on 7:46 pm | In Main | No CommentsI took Sean to the park tonight so he could get some fresh air and some exercise. On the way to the park, Sean really wanted to practice crossing the street. I have taught him to look for cars before crossing. I think he wanted to zig-zag back and forth across the steet, but I kept him on the sidewalk until we needed to cross. When we arrived, it wasn’t very crowded at the park this evening. One mother showed up with a boy much younger than Sean. The mother wasn’t confident enough in her child to let him play on his own, so she went down the slides with him. Sean kept following the mother and her boy, doing everything they did. When they left, I pretended I was another child and followed Sean and did everything he did. Sean loved it. He was very well behaved on the walk home.

See Ethan, every once in a while, Mommy just goes crazy with the camera. Just smile, let her take your picture, then you can get on with what you are doing.

November 13, 2002 on 8:45 pm | In Main | No CommentsEthan is much more aware of his surroundings. He carefully watches my face whenever I feed him. Even though he cries frequently, I’m wondering if it is because he now knows who is parents are, and he misses us whenever we are not in sight or in contact with him. I still wouldn’t describe Ethan as colicky, and if this is bad as it gets, then I think we are very lucky to have such a good baby. Is it too soon to start thinking about when he will sleep through the night?

November 13, 2002 on 8:31 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean went to Jeepers tonight. He talks about this all day long, every day. Here’s what he’s talking about (click on the pictures to enlarge):
I’m riding the horsey at Jeepers! This is the horsey!
I’m on the ride at Jeepers! (This is Sean’s favorite ride. See his wristband? It allows him to go on all the rides he wants to).

November 12, 2002 on 8:45 pm | In Main | No CommentsObservation number one about writing: don’t write when you are tired. That last post took many, many rounds of editing in order to turn it into a semi-coherent paragraph. It could use some more work still, but I’m giving up.

November 12, 2002 on 8:35 pm | In Main | No CommentsWe decided to go to the library for entertainment this evening. Sean just loves the train set they have in the children’s area. Tonight was baby and toddler story time. The children’s area was crowded, and we saw some people there that we knew, so Cortney had time to chat. We didn’t participate in the story time, since Ethan is too young for the baby time, and Sean isn’t old enough for the toddler time. While Sean was playing with the trains and Ethan was sleeping, I ended up picking up a few books on writing. I’m somewhat skeptical about books on writing, since I figure that writers who can’t write simply turn to writing books on writing. But since I am a complete novice and amateur, I think I can learn a least a few things from someone who has published. At any rate, I intend to improve my writing skills, starting with this journal, then move on to short stories, and possibly novels.

November 12, 2002 on 8:30 pm | In Main | No CommentsWe took Ethan’s footprints today. Here’s how they came out:

We ended up getting ink everywhere. The ink even stained the little plastic tub we use to given Ethan a bath.

November 11, 2002 on 6:09 pm | In Main | No CommentsWe took Sean and Ethan to the park this evening. Sean didn’t have the chance to go when my mom was here. On Friday, we had the debacle of the portrait session. Saturday, we were too tired from the zoo. On Sunday, we enjoyed the nice home-cooked meal after the trip to the mall. So, Sean was excited about going this evening. Unfortunately, Sean had a case of diarrhea at the park, and this cut short the trip. This was one of the nasty cases where you throw the kid in the bath tub even before taking his clothes off. Sean didn’t seem to mind, and he enjoyed the bath.
Death to Smoochy
November 11, 2002 on 6:05 pm | In Movie Reviews | No CommentsI forgot to write the movie review for this weekend. The one movie we saw was Death to Smoochy. This movie was slow to develop, and the first half of the movie put three adults to sleep. I ended up watching the second half of the movie the following evening. After the slow beginning, the movie did have some funny parts, and the corporate invasion of the kid show theme was interesting. I would say this movie was worth watching, but only if they don’t have any other selections in the video store. I rate this movie a C.
Buy it.
