We are celebrating New Year’s Eve with a mini-movie festival. We are going to start off with Blade Runner, an old classic, then finish up with XXX, a new rental. We are really going to party it up. We are going to eat cheese and crackers, then finish up at midnight with some sparking cider. In a way, it will be nice to spend a quiet evening with just the two of us. In order to stay up to midnight, we will have four hours together after the kids go to bed.

Sean woke up this morning feeling worse than yesterday. In fact, he woke me up at 5:45am, crawling into bed with me. He was wheezing and having trouble breathing. When he started coughing, I realized he had the croup. Overall, Sean had a good day. We kept him inside, away from the cold air. He had fun watching his videos and playing with the trains. This evening, I took Ethan out for a long walk, leaving Sean at home. It was strange walking without Sean, but I want him to heal up as fast as possible.

Ethan is starting to coo more often now. He will smile on command now (I just smile at him and say “smile for daddy”, and he smiles right back), which is really neat.

Sean woke up more congested than he has been in the last few days, so Cortney took him to the doctor. It’s just a virus, but the doctor prescribed some stronger medication. It was a nice sunny day, so I took Sean and Ethan back to the park. Sean had fun, but he wasn’t as energetic as he normally is at the playground. Sean was definitely feeling better after dinner. We played the tape we recorded Christmas eve and Christmas morning of the family opening presents. Sean got a big kick out of watching himself opening presents, and just started acting plain silly. Hopefully, he will do better tonight than he did last night.

The house cleaners came today. It was nice having a clean house, even if it only lasted a few hours.

The high today was 67 degrees, but when I took Sean and Ethan to the park this afternoon, a cold front moved through, dropping the temperature by more than 10 degrees. None of us were dressed for the cooler weather, and it looked like it might rain, so we left after only 10 minutes of play. I carried Sean and my shoulders so that we could get home quickly. That was quite a load, with Ethan in the carrier as well. Sean wasn’t short-changed though, he also had play time at the mall earlier this morning, and McDonalds’s this evening.

Since it was so warm today, we went to the park after dinner, even though it was already starting to get dark out. Sean definitely prefers to play the “my turn” game with his daddy. This is the game where Sean says “my turn to go down the slide”, and I say back “no, my turn”, which Sean and I keep repeating until we both go down the slide. I had Ethan in the carrier, so I thought Cortney could go down the slides just as easy as I could, but Sean wasn’t interested in playing that game with her. As a bonus for making the late trip to the park, we had a nice walk back looking at all of the christmas lights.

The big hit of the day was a trip to the McCorkmick-Stillman Railroad Park, in nearby Scottsdale. Sean had fun on both the carousel and the train ride. They have a well equiped play area, but Sean kept running off to see the train, so we didn’t spend much time on the playground. They also have a nice exhibit of the last presidential Pullman car. We plan to go back to visit again.

It was a really nice day today, with a high temperature of 74 degrees. I started off the day by washing and waxing my car. In the summer, I had taken my car to the carwash, but they just don’t do a good job on the wheels. It took me most of the time to wash the brake dust off the wheels. After that, the washing and waxing was easy.

It was a nice day today, warming up into the 60’s. I took advantage of the warmer weather to work on the swimming pool. I started by draining over 2 inches of water from the pool. The recent rains had over-filled the pool. I also cleaned the filter cartrige and cleaned up as many of the leaves as I could. Without any rains or high winds, the pool should stay in good shape for a while. After Sean woke up from his nap, I took Sean and Ethan to the park. This was the first time I took the two of them without a stroller. I had Ethan in the carrier, and Sean wanted to walk on his own. Sean behaved well on the walk to and from the park, staying in the sidewalk, and waiting for my command to cross the streets. He also had plenty of children to play with at the park.

The day after Christmas is Cortney’s big day. She left the house at 6:00am this morning to take advantage of the after Christmas day sale specials. I watched Sean and Ethan this morning, and didn’t do much for the rest of the day.

Merry Christmas everyone. The train table was a big hit with Sean. After we opened presents this morning, I prepared our Christmas meal. I cooked a broiled chicken and made baked macaroni and cheese. The dishes didn’t turn out as well as I had hoped, but they were edible. We just relaxed and enjoyed the rest of the day, so there isn’t much more to talk about.

Ah, Christmas eve. Sean’s big present this year is a train table. We figured that once he saw the train table, he wouldn’t be interested in opening his other presents. So, we opened Sean’s gifts this evening. Sean was definitely into opening the gifts this year, and he had fun opening the presents. He was occasionally distracted by some of the presents he had opened, and we had to coax him to open his other gifts. We recorded the entire session on tape, and I look forward to viewing the tape again. After Sean went to bed, I assembled the train table. It turned out that putting the table together was much easier than putting the train track on the table top to match the layout on the box. Eventually, all of the train pieces did go together. We plan to video tape Sean’s reaction when he sees the table tomorrow morning.

I took advantage of the warmer temperatures and sunny weather to take Sean and Ethan to the park this afternoon. There were still puddles of water on the ground, but it looked like enough kids had used the playground that the slides were all dry. This was a good day for Sean. Cortney took him to Jeepers this morning, and he had a nice play session at the park in the afternoon.

Finally, some sunshine after almost five days of rainy weather. Unfortunately, the bad weather seems to have taken its toll. Cortney, Sean and I are fighting colds, and poor Ethan had a bad vomiting session this morning. As of this evening, though, Ethan has kept down his last two bottles, so it seems this was just a temporary thing.
