January 27, 2003 on 7:49 pm | In Main | No CommentsWe had nice weather again today. We actually set a record high with a temperature of 82 degrees. We all went to the park this evening. I was comfortable wearing shorts, even after the sun had set and it started to cool off a bit. As usual, I had Ethan in the carrier, and he slept most of the time. Sean started off with playing on the slides, then he finished by playing with a boy and girl who brought a toy backhoe. I think Sean was the only young child at the park who knew it was a backhoe.

January 27, 2003 on 7:46 pm | In Main | No CommentsToday was Sean’s first day at school! Neither Sean nor Cortney cried when Sean was dropped off. I don’t know if Sean had a good time or not, but at least he didn’t have any problems at school today. I’m guessing that he will enjoy it more after he has become comfortable with the setting.

January 27, 2003 on 7:42 pm | In Main | No CommentsAt work, we were hit with the SQL Worm. The network was down on Saturday, and again this morning. Around late morning, they had fixed enough machines that at least I was able to perform my job. Almost everything I do at work involves network access in one form or another.

January 27, 2003 on 7:28 pm | In Main | No CommentsI never cared much for the Oakland Raiders, so I was glad to see them lose in the Superbowl. But after hearing about the riots, I care for them even less. What were the fans thinking, that they would win without actually having to play the game? And it’s not like the game was even close; the Raiders were trounced. I suppose it was mainly the street gangs that wear the Raider paraphernalia, but still, what a bunch of sore losers.

January 26, 2003 on 8:31 pm | In Main | No CommentsToday, being Superbowl Sunday, was a relaxing day. We went out for a bit this morning to check out the new Sams Club, and took it easy this afternoon. Ethan was well behaved today. He slept when he was supposed to, and played and enjoyed himself otherwise. Sean was full of energy this morning and in the early afternoon, then turned cranky in the evening when he ran out of energy. I ended up watching the superbowl by myself. Cortney was busy get the house ready for the cleaners tomorrow, and of course, preparing for Sean’s first day at school.
The Bourne Identity
January 26, 2003 on 8:24 pm | In Movie Reviews | No CommentsThe second movie of the weekend was The Bourne Identity. Another in a series of unoriginal ideas. Almost a typical spy movie. I thought the amnesia angle was weakly developed, leaving just a basic action spy movie. I did thing that Matt Damon did a good job with this movie, and some of the action scenes were well done. I rate this movie a B, but if you don’t like action spy movies, consider this movie to be a C.

Undercover Brother
January 26, 2003 on 8:20 pm | In Movie Reviews | No CommentsThe first movie of the weekend was Undercover Brother. This movie is really just an Austin Powers remake in the blaxploitation theme. The movie was amusing, but not as funny as the Austin Powers series. I rate this movie a C.

January 25, 2003 on 7:48 pm | In Main | No CommentsThe family went to dinner at Burger King this evening. This was far from our first choice. We went to a local Mexican restaurant, only to find out it was out of business. Our next choice was the Olive Garden, but there was a 45 minute wait. There was no way that we could have kept Sean entertained for this amount of time. After a heated discussion, we then decided on the Burger King. This was my first opportunity to see Sean play in the ball pit. Fortunately, we brought food for Sean, so only Cortney and I had to eat the artery-clogging fair. And, Sean was able to get some exercise to boot. After we arrived home, Sean wasn’t in a good mood at all. He didn’t sleep much for his afternoon nap, so he was definitely tired. We ended up putting Sean to bed early.

January 25, 2003 on 7:41 pm | In Main | No CommentsWe took Sean to get his hair cut today. We went to a new place that is just for kids. Here is a picture of the setup (click to enlarge):
Sean sat in a car, rather than a barber’s chair, and he watched a video we brought from home. The video is one of his current favorites, a documenatry about horses. Sean’s haircut cost a couple of dollars more than the place we normally go to, but he didn’t scream nearly as much as he usually does, so it was worth it. Actually he didn’t really mind much at all, until the end when the stylist had to trim around his ears and on his neck.
About A Boy
January 25, 2003 on 7:34 pm | In Movie Reviews | No CommentsI never posted my movie reviews for last weekend. The second movie we saw was About a Boy. I don’t like Hugh Grant, and I don’t like movies about dating, so this movie already had two strikes against it before I even saw it. I must say that the movie was entertaining. I guess the best praise I can give the movie is that it is a watchable “chick flick” movie. So guys, if you want to gain some points with your female partner, this movie is a good choice. I rate this movie a B.

FearDotCom
January 25, 2003 on 7:26 pm | In Movie Reviews | No CommentsThe first movie we saw last weekend was FearDotCom. This movie actually had the potential for a decent story. I think the movie would have worked as either a ghost story or perhaps as a science fiction movie. As it is, adapting the story to the modern day internet just ruined it. Filling the movie with cliches didn’t help either. How hard is it for Hollywood to have a computer literate person review the screenplay? Someone who at least knows what the 1/0 switch is for. I rate this movie a D.

January 25, 2003 on 7:16 pm | In Main | No CommentsWe took Ethan to get his pictures taken. I think he is photogenic, just like his older brother. Here’s a copy of the proofs, so you can decide for yourself (click to enlarge):
We did the best we could with Ethan’s hair. Most of the hair he was born with has fallen out, and what little he has left tends to stand up. The same thing happened when we took Sean’s three month pictures. The more we tried to fix his hair, the more it stood up. So, we didn’t even bother to fix Ethan’s hair.

January 24, 2003 on 10:05 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean had a rough evening. He missed his afternoon nap, and he was really cranky. During dinner, he refused to eat his corn, and we sent him upstairs when he started throwing the corn on the floor. He ended up falling asleep. He woke up about an hour later, still cranky. By the time of his evening milk, he was back to normal. He sat with me on the sofa, watching the movie Cats and Dogs until it was his bedtime.

January 23, 2003 on 8:19 pm | In Main | No CommentsMy prediction is that the War in Iraq will start sometime between January 30th and February 15th. The latest posturing by the Democrats, peaceniks, and supposed allied countries seems somewhat silly to me. Congress has already authorized the war, and even the last UN security council resolution allows war without any further resolutions. It’s clear that Iraq has no interest in disarming, so there shouldn’t be any question as to the outcome.

January 23, 2003 on 8:09 pm | In Main | No CommentsI see the Raelian movement is announcing the third cloned human. I could provide links, but I don’t want to glorify the gullable news media. Not only are there no cloned humans, but they haven’t even attempted to clone a human! Other than a website and a P.O. box, Clonaid doesn’t even exist.
