Sean had another one of those days where he fell asleep early in the evening, then didn’t wake up before bedtime. This time, he fell asleep sitting up on the sofa. After tossing and turning a bit, he landed in more of a prone position, where he remained until I carried him upstairs.

Ethan was doing some serious babbling today. He was saying “ba ba ba” over and over again. I tried to get him to say “da da”, but saying this resulted in Ethan stopping the babbling and just smiling.

It was a warm evening tonight, made pleasant with a nice breeze, so we all went out to a park tonight. We tried a new park, across the street from Sean’s school. Sean seemed to like this park, spending almost the entire time on the equipment. At most of the parks, he spends about half his time running around or playing with his toy backhoe, and the rest of the time on the equpipment. So, there is definitely something he enjoys about this park. We might have to go back there.

It turns out that taking out my contact lenses overnight fixed my eye problem. Now why didn’t I do that the night before? Well, I took out that contact lenses and washed it, and my eye was more irritated without the lens than with it, so I thought the problem wasn’t the contact lenses. Besides, my clip-on sunglasses are just not strong enough for the Arizona sun, so I really don’t like wearing my glasses.

I had a tough day at work today. It feels like something is stuck in my left eye, even though I can’t find anything. I spent the day squinting at the computer monitor through my right eye.

Today was spent doing numerous small chores. One thing that I did do differently from the weekend routine was to take a dip in the swimming pool. The pool thermometer read 73 degrees, which seemed warm enough after working up a sweat doing some yardwork. I was in for an unpleasant suprise when I found out the temperature more than a foot from the surface was quite a bit cooler. I didn’t stay in long. Oh well. There will be plenty of opportunities to use the pool when the weather heats up a bit more.

We went to a ghost town, a former mining camp today. We toured an underground mine, and took a ride on a narrow gauge railroad. Ethan was a little fussy during the mine tour, but otherwise had a good time. Sean had fun just running around the camp. He kept running up and down the wooden stairs and walkways. The only thing Sean didn’t like was the steam whistle. It was loud enough to make me jump, so I could see why Sean was upset. Sean even wanted to sit in the car seat for comfort from the whistle, and he normally hates the car seat. Here’s a picture of me and the kids checking out the shadier part of the camp (click on picture to see the full-sized image):

Tonight was a break from our typical routine. We started off with dinner at a local Mexican restaurant. 20% of the dinner bill went to the MOMS club fund, so we were able to help out the MOMS club as well as get a meal. After dinner, we went to get Sean’s hair cut. Sean didn’t care much for the blow drier, and didn’t like the hair falling down his shirt, but otherwise, he didn’t mind the haircut. Of course, he was watching one of his favorite videos, and sitting in a toy car during the haircut. Sean went in to the hair place with a bad case of bed head from his afternoon nap, and left with a neatly trimmed hair. After the haircut, we tried to reward Sean with a trip to the ball pit at Burger King. Unfortunately, some older kids were playing, and Sean didn’t feel comfortable with all the bigger kids running around. So we didn’t stay long. But, it was late enough when we arrived home for his evening milk, and I even through in some story reading as well. So, Sean at least had some reward.

Sean and I were walking to the park, when a full-sized school bus stopped by us and let some kids off. We kept walking, but then the driver pulled up and stopped by us. The driver offered Sean a lollipop, and a tour of the school bus. For some reason, Sean was terrified at the thought of climbing into the big bus. He even looked like he was going to cry. I guess the driver took some sympathy for Sean, and walked off the bus to hand him the lollipop. At least Sean said “thank you”. We might have a challenge in store for us this Fall, when Sean starts riding the school bus.

It was perfect park weather this evening, but we didn’t go. Sean fell asleep after I arrived home from work. He just plopped down on the living room floor. He didn’t wake up until was his bedtime. I just scopped him up and carried him up to bed.

It was windy and chilly today, but I took Sean to the park anyway. Since Sean wore shorts, I wore shorts as well. We had to keep running around to keep warm. Sean now has a new activity at the park — doing frog jumps. He especially likes doing the jumps down the hill by the playground. I probably looked silly doing frog jumps, but who cares.

Sean did’t get a chance to go the park today, but he was still tired after preschool. He fell asleep around 6:30 pm, and never did wake up after that. I carried Sean upstairs and put him to bed. He definitely feels heavier than the 35 pounds he weighed on the last visit to the doctor’s.

We have finally found solid food that Ethan enjoys. He really likes the banana baby food. Not only did Ethan swallow the banana food, but he didn’t make a face either. Sean’s favorite food, other than candy and potato chips, is pasta.

Today was Easter, and we celebrated with an egg hunt for Sean. Sean found a few of the eggs on his own, but didn’t seem to be in any hurry to find the rest of the eggs. Cortney held Ethan, and cheered Sean on. It was a very pleasant morning, and it would have been nice to let Sean take his time, but I was filming on the egg hunt on our camcorder. Since it was such a nice day, I mowed the lawn after the egg hunt, and then we made a trip to the park. We also spent some time in the backyard after dinner. I hope this pleasant weather sticks around for a while. It won’t be too much longer before we are stuck with temperatures in the 100’s.

Welcome to Collinwood

In addition to the trip to the movies, we also saw a movie last Thursday night. We saw Welcome to Collinwood. This movie was a dark comedy about a group of people bungling a robbery. I thought this movie was a bit too short, and the ending was anti-climatic. Otherwise, the movie had an intersting story and some funny moments. I rate this movie a B-.

Buy it.
