April 12, 2003 on 8:06 pm | In Main | No CommentsToday we went to our first of two birthday parties this weekend. This one was our neigbors twin daughter’s three year birthday party. The party was held at a playplace that had a nice setup. Sean spent most of his time at the train table. Across from the train table was one of those blow-up jumping pits, which Sean also enjoyed. Sean didn’t enjoy the pizza, but he finished off his piece of birthday cake. We all had a good time.

April 11, 2003 on 8:36 pm | In Main | No CommentsEthan is six months old today. We celebrated with a well visit to the doctor’s. Ethan is 25th percentile weight and height, and 90th percentile in head size. No bobblehead jokes please. At least Ethan’s body is perfectly proportioned. The doctor recommended trying foods other than the cereals. She recommended sweet potato. We’ll be trying that in the next day or so. We also thought Ethan might have an ear infection, since he has been fussy the last day or two, but the problem turned out to be just a sore throat. The good news is that there’s no prescription to be filled for the sore throat. Ethan handled his vaccinations well. He received two shots in each thigh. He cried when the shots went in, but by the time we had him in the car seat, he had already stopped crying. Ethan took a nice long nap this afternoon. I think he needed it.

April 10, 2003 on 7:36 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean’s normal nap time is in the middle of the afternoon. Unfortunately, this is when Sean goes to preschool. Frequently, Sean is exhausted when he comes home from school. Twice this week, Sean has grabbed his blanket, laid down on the floor, thrown the blanket over his head, and fallen asleep. Today, Sean didn’t wake up until dinner time. His nap must of done some good, as he had enough energy to run around the park after dinner.

April 9, 2003 on 8:04 pm | In Main | No CommentsIt was hot today, with not much of a breeze. Of course, it’s hard to complain about a temperature of 92 degrees, when in another month or two, it will be twenty degrees hotter. Sean and I went to the park anyway, and except for running around, it was comfortable.

April 9, 2003 on 7:46 pm | In Main | No CommentsI was moved by the video footage showing the toppling of the Saddam statue in downtown Baghdad amid a crowd of cheering Iraqi citizens. While the war is still not over, There is no longer any doubt as to the outcome.

April 8, 2003 on 7:09 pm | In Main | No CommentsIt was warm, but breezy this afternoon, and the whole family went to the park. We brought a shovel and dump truck for Sean to play with in the sand. Sean was mostly interested in the other kid’s toys, but at least he had something to bargain with. Ethan slept most of the time. Cortney spent quite a bit of time chatting with another mother who had two boys close to Sean and Ethan’s age. I enjoyed the fresh air, and kept an eye on Sean and Ethan.

April 7, 2003 on 7:43 pm | In Main | No CommentsI had to pick Sean up from pre-school. I had never done that before. Cortney went to the ear doctor today, and so I met her at the doctor’s office, picked up Ethan and the van, drove to pick-up Sean, then drove back to the doctor’s office to hand the van over to Cortney. It would have been easier if Cortney would have taken my car, but it’s a stick shift, and Cortney doesn’t drive a manual transmission. Some good news, Cortney’s ear is just fine. Oh, and back to picking up Sean at school. He saw me and yelled out “Dawee, Dawee”, interrupting story time. Sean was more than happy to go home with his father.

April 6, 2003 on 6:17 pm | In Main | No CommentsI tried to take Sean hiking. We didn’t go more than a few hundred feet before Sean decided he wanted to walk in the opposite direction than I was going. I explained that the way he was going led to the car, and if he went my way, he would see some horses. Sean ended up sitting on the trail, doing nothing. I waited patiently, but to no avail. I decided it was better to head back than to go too much further. I ended up dragging Sean by the hand for part of the way, then carrying him the rest of the way to the car. I’m hoping this was just a one time thing, and will try again next weekend, weather permitting.
Red Dragon
April 6, 2003 on 6:08 pm | In Movie Reviews | No CommentsThe movie we watched this weekend was Red Dragon. It was nice to watch a Hannibal movie without the gory anatomy scenes. However, this movie seemed to be a bit week. I think the biggest weakness is that the “Red Dragon” was not very intimidating as the antagonist. That character was more schizophrenic rather than manic, and you were left wondering why Hannibal had any interest in the Red Dragon. Other than the weakness of the Red Dragon character, the movie was interesting, so I rate it a B.
Buy it.

April 5, 2003 on 10:37 pm | In Main | No CommentsNot much happened today. It was breezy and cool today, and just a bit too chilly to spend time outdoors. I did manage to trim the front hedges, but otherwise spent the day in the house. Sean took a real long nap this afternoon. Cortney took Sean to Jeepers after dinner, while I stayed home and watched Ethan. And, we actually watched a movie this weekend! I will be writing the review tomorrow.

April 4, 2003 on 8:00 pm | In Main | No CommentsI thought the cancer scare went out of vogue in the seventies. Apparently not, according to this article. I have a hunch that the biggest cause of cancer in the third world countries is not “western influences”, but greater longevity. Everyone would die of cancer if they lived long enough. The third world countries should be so lucky to have that problem.

April 4, 2003 on 7:47 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean had some friends over to play today. That was good, since he doesn’t have school on Fridays. It sounded like he had fun, and I could tell he was a bit tired when I came home from work. We took him to the ball pit at Burger King, but he only played for a half hour or so. Sean didn’t care at all for our quick stop at Best Buy. We were looking for a child’s mouse, or at least one that doesn’t have the scroll wheel/button. When he uses the mouse, he keeps clicking on the scroll wheel. At any rate, they didn’t have what we were looking for.
