Ethan fell asleep tonight during his last bottle of formula for the evening. I tried to carry him upstairs to his crib without waking him up. When I put him in the crib, I was amazed to see him roll over onto his stomach, pull his legs under his rump, and put himself into his favorite sleeping position. I guess he has outgrown sleeping on his back.

We had a nice outing in the pool this evening. Everyone went in the pool, including Ethan. Sean has finally braved the pool enough to jump in from the side. Cortney and I took turns holding Ethan. He was happy to just splash in the water. We would have all stayed in longer, but the water isn’t quite warm enough yet.

I did some yardwork this morning. Monday is loose trash pick-up, and I wanted to take care of all the overgrown plants in the yard. Normally I would have done this on Sunday, but I figured there was enough work to split up over two days. I accomplished a lot today, so I won’t have that much to do tomorrow.

Cortney took Sean and Ethan to another mom’s house for a pool party. Apparently, Sean freely jumped in from the side of the pool. Sean hasn’t done that yet this year in our pool. Our evening outing today was a trip to the ball pit at Burger King. Sean had fun, but his fun was cut short when we caught him throwing balls at another child. He learned this a while ago from some older kids, and we are trying to discourage that behavior by taking him home when he does it. At least we had time to eat our dinner there.

Today was the last day of school for Sean. I think he will miss school. At least Sean won’t be going through a sleep deprivation exercise. He can now take a nap in the middle of the afternoon. Next year, Sean will be in the morning class, so he will be able to continue his afternoon naps. He will also be taking the bus to school. That should be interesting.

Another hot day today. We cooled off in the pool this evening. Actually, today was the first day this year where it was comfortable going into the water. The water temperature in the pool is about 84 degrees, which is just about right. Cortney, Sean and I had fun playing catch with a beach ball. When Cortney and I were done swimming, Sean was disappointed that he couldn’t stay in the pool longer.

It was hot today, with a high of 109 degrees. Normally, we would spend the evening in the pool, but tonight, Sean’s pre-school put on a show. The kids, including Sean, did some singing and finger plays. After that, the teacher presented a slide show with pictures from throughout the school year. We finished with snacks brought in by the families. It was a nice show.

Ethan has learned he can refuse foods that he doesn’t want. It seems he has stopped eating the squash and sweet potatoes. The worst is when he spits out a little of the food, and then does a raspberry, spreading bits of orange food everywhere. The good news is that he has started to like the rice and oatmeal cereal. We can load him up on the cereal to get him to sleep through the night.

Our big activity of the day was going to the shopping mall. We went to one a little farther away than most of the malls, mainly because of the nice kid’s play area. Sean definitely enjoyed the play area. Of the four of us, he got the best deal. Ethan was fussier than usual, and I had a hard time watching both Ethan and Sean. So, Cortney didn’t have much time for shopping. Still, it wasn’t a bad way to spend the day.

We went out to dinner tonight, and both kids behaved well, so we had a good time. Sean and I had a nice swim in the pool afterwards. The temperature just barely hit three digits, but that’s still enough to keep the pool warm.

One day in school last week, Sean had carrots with ranch dressing. He enjoyed it, so we decided to try it at home. Sean normally only eats two baby carrots, and only if we cut them into pieces. At lunch today, I tried five carrots along with the ranch dressing. I was surprised to see Sean eat all five. He must really like the ranch dressing, because he dipped his cheese, his bread, and even his cookie into the dressing.

25th Hour

The second movie of the weekend was 25th Hour. Since this was a Spike Lee movie, I expected more political overtones, but it turned out to be a well done movie. The movie is about main character’s last day before serving a seven year jail term. This movie takes place in New York City, and if you haven’t been there, the movie wouldn’t be as meaningful. Ed Norton turns in another good acting job, with a good support cast. A good film, but depressing subject matter. I rate this movie a B+.

Buy it.

Analyze That

The first movie of the weekend was Analyze That. This movie is a sequal to Anayze This, and it suffers from sequilitis. I think this movie tried to do to much, and ended up with mediocre results. The movie had a slow start, but did pick up in the second half. I didn’t care much for Billy Crystal’s whining character, and Robert De Niro’s character was annoying as well. The plot wasn’t very believable. Despite these flaws, the mixture of humor and action wasn’t too bad. I rate this movie a C.

Buy it.

It’s been a long week, so I just relaxed today. It seemed Sean and Ethan felt the same way; they both took long naps this afternoon. Sean and I had a nice swim this evening. Sean still isn’t putting his head underwater on his own, but at least he went right to the second step of the pool and started splashing around. The pool water has warmed up to 83 degrees, but it was chilly for Sean since he kept running in and out of the water. I warmed him up in the shower afterwards.

Ethan seems to have the solid foods down pat now. We’re feeding him at least 3 meals a day. Ethan is also now making it through the night without a bottle. He still wakes up with a wet diaper from time to time, but that’s easier to take care of then a bottle feeding.
