May 22, 2003 on 8:01 pm | In Main | No CommentsFor the last few days, I’ve been asking Sean what he did at school. It seems that among all of his school activities, snack time is leaving the strongest impression. Yesterday, he told me he ate crackers. Today, he told me he ate a cupcake.

May 21, 2003 on 7:58 pm | In Main | No CommentsWe reached the predicted high of 107 degrees today. A perfect day for the pool. I brought Sean out after dinner, but he was more interested in playing with his toy boat than swimming. I at least got him onto the second step, which is about waist deep for Sean. He was happy to play and splash about on the second step, but wouldn’t go any further into the water.

May 20, 2003 on 7:58 pm | In Main | No CommentsEthan made some progress sitting up today. He stayed in a sitting position for a few seconds after being propped up. He also leaned forward in his bouncy seat, which was close to the sitting position.

May 20, 2003 on 7:57 pm | In Main | No CommentsToday was Sean’s sleeping day, where he is so tired from pre-school that he crashes the moment he comes home. I had to go swimming without him. He did wake up later on in the evening, so I didn’t have to carry him sleeping up to his bedroom. We’ll try the pool again tomorrow night.

May 20, 2003 on 7:53 pm | In Main | No CommentsThe weatherman said that today was “warm”, with a high of 103 degrees. Tomorrow, it will be “hot”, with a high of 107 degrees.

May 19, 2003 on 8:19 pm | In Main | No CommentsEthan may not be crawling yet, be his sure is good at spinning around. It seems like if you turn your head for just a second, he has already spun around 180 degrees. When I have watched him do it, he just spins around on his belly. He seems to be comfortable on his stomach. I think Ethan may start crawling before he learns to sit.

May 19, 2003 on 8:17 pm | In Main | No CommentsWhen Sean misbehaves, we put him in time out. His time out place is his bedroom, and when we put him in there, we set the timer for one minute for each year he is old, for 3 minutes. He usually tries to get out for the first 30 seconds, then sits quietly for the rest of the time. Today, I think he was more frustrated than usual during his time out. Just as you walk in the door, Sean has his name spelled out in large letters, stacked vertically. Sean knocked the N off the wall, and it broke when it hit the floor. Sean’s room will be labeled SEA for a while.

May 19, 2003 on 6:07 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean and I braved the pool this evening. Actually Sean didn’t really brave the pool. He just wanted to run around, throwing things into the pool. Sean went in just twice. Once when I pulled him in, and once when he fell in reaching for his toy boat. It’s a shame he didn’t want to go in; the pool had warmed up to 80 degrees or so. We’ll try again tomorrow night.

May 18, 2003 on 7:52 pm | In Main | No CommentsIt was cooler today, with a high of only 99 degrees, so we tried walking to the park this evening. I say tried, because we walked most of the way to the park, and all of a sudden Sean wouldn’t hold my or Cortney’s hand, and he wouldn’t walk along side of us. We carried him back kicking and screaming. He eventually calmed down, and Cortney and I took turns reading him books until it was bedtime.

May 18, 2003 on 7:50 pm | In Main | No CommentsThe pool is just about ready for swimming. The chemicals I put in yesterday to kill the algae are just about gone, and the new filter cartridge is working great. The water should be clean and clear for a swim tomorrow night. Last year on this date, I had just replaced the pump motor.

May 18, 2003 on 7:47 pm | In Main | No CommentsThe family went to Target this morning. Cortney was looking for replacement seat cushions for the patio furniture. I hadn’t been shopping with Sean in a while, and I was amused at Sean naming everything on the store shelves. At one point he yelled out “Bob the Builder!”, but we weren’t in the toy section. It turns out that another child in the store had a Bob the Builder backpack. I wouldn’t have noticed. Cortney and I disagreed on the seat cushions, so it turned out that walking around the store with Sean was the highlight of the trip.
The Hot Chick
May 18, 2003 on 7:41 pm | In Movie Reviews | No CommentsLast night’s movie was The Hot Chick. Only in Hollywood would such a concept as a man and a woman swapping bodies be considered viable for a full length movie. Throw in the fact that this was a Rob Schneider movie, and you know this isn’t serious fare. I thought most of the jokes just weren’t that funny. I rate this movie a C.

Auto Focus
May 18, 2003 on 5:45 pm | In Movie Reviews | No CommentsThe Friday night movie was Auto Focus. We had actually rented this before, but that was when our DVD player had broken. This movie is the biography of Bob Crane, star of Hogan’s Heros. The movie documented his rise to stardom, and his fall into sexual depravity. The movie was interesting, but the second half of the movie was kind of creepy. The acting by Greg Kinnear was good, but in the end, the story matter was just too disturbing. I don’t know that I would recommend this movie. We watched it because Bob Crane died in nearby Scottsdale, and we knew that his murder had never been solved. I rate this movie a B-.

May 17, 2003 on 9:41 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean and Ethan but took long naps this afternoon. We put them both to sleep around 12:30 in the afternoon, but neither one actually fell asleep until 2:00 or so. Then they both slept till past 5:00. Cortney and I enjoyed a relaxing afternoon.
