May 17, 2003 on 9:39 pm | In Main | No CommentsThe high today was 104 degrees. I worked on the pool to get it ready to swim in. I replaced the filter cartridge, which wasn’t cheap. I’m glad I did it; the new cartridge flows much more water than after I had cleaned the old one. I also treated a major case of algae.

May 16, 2003 on 9:57 pm | In Main | No CommentsThe hight today hit 100 degrees, so that makes today the first day of the year to hit triple digit temperatures. I’ll be spending part of the weekend getting the pool ready to swim in.

May 15, 2003 on 8:06 pm | In Main | No CommentsWe started the day with a family trip to the dentist. I actually had a bold and daring plan. Sean was to watch me get my teeth cleaned, and then he would get his own teeth cleaned. I pictured Sean running around the dentist’s office creating mayhem, so Cortney came along just in case. I didn’t want Sean banned from our dentist. But believe it or not, Sean actually sat still and watched me get my teeth cleaned. He sat quietly on the chair during the cleaning part, then the hygenist had Sean stand up and watch as my teeth were polished.
when it was Sean’s turn, the hygenist succeeded in getting Sean’s teeth x-rayed, and was able to polish at least his front teeth. Sean’s teeth are healthy, and he has enough gaps between his baby teeth that the adult teeth show grow in without any problem. The dentist did warn us that if Sean continued to suck his thumb, it would eventually be a problem.

May 14, 2003 on 8:22 pm | In Main | No CommentsI asked Sean what he did at school today. I’ve been asking that question for a while now, but I haven’t got much of an answer before. Today, Sean said that he washed his hands at school. That’s not a bad answer; the teachers work on hand washing every day.

May 14, 2003 on 8:19 pm | In Main | No CommentsEthan finished a whole jar of sweet potato baby food this evening. Previously, we had mixed reaction with the sweet potato. This extends the foods Ethan likes to three: sweet potato, squash, and banana.

May 13, 2003 on 8:14 pm | In Main | No CommentsThe high temperature hit 99 degrees today, close to that 100 mark. The Phoenix locals have contests to guess the first day that hits 100 degrees. On average, that is around mid-May. The interesting thing was that it was cloudy, even though the relative humidity was down to 4%. You would think the clouds would just evaporate with that low humidity. I guess that the weather systems for the lower and upper atmospheres are a bit different.

May 13, 2003 on 8:08 pm | In Main | No CommentsEthan was in a good mood tonight. Right around his fussy time, I fed him a jar of squash baby food. I then followed up with carrots, a new food for Ethan. He didn’t like it. He had the heebie-jeebies, that involuntary motion where you shake your head and scrunch your shoulders, and crossed his arms in front of his face to keep me from feeding him any more. So much for carrots. Ethan was still hungry, so I soothed him with his favorite food, bananas. Afterwards, he was all smiles, and was content to sit in his bouncy seat for the next two hours.

May 13, 2003 on 8:05 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean had a complete meltdown this evening. Cortney left the house to pick up some items from the store. Sean apparently wanted to go with her, and I had to hold him back to keep him from running out into the garage. Even after she left, he ran into the garage, crying and screaming. I didn’t want Sean in the garage, so I decided the best thing to do was give him a timeout. I then followed our timeout procedure, by carrying Sean into the bedroom, setting the timer for 3 minutes, and holding the handle of the door while telling Sean he had to stay in the bedroom. After the timer went off, I told him he could come out, but after he opened the door, he went into his bed to lie down. He then fell asleep and never got back up. I guess tonight was his tired night.

May 12, 2003 on 8:07 pm | In Main | No CommentsI took Sean to the park right after I came home from work, but it was really to hot out. It wasn’t too bad in the shade, but it was way too hot in the sun. Sean and I only stayed for a half hour.

May 12, 2003 on 8:06 pm | In Main | No CommentsIt was a hot day today, with a high of 96 degrees. I turned on the air conditioning for the first time this year. At 5:00 pm, the temperature in the house was already 80 degrees, and opening the doors and windows to 93 degree air temperatures would only make things worse.

May 11, 2003 on 7:46 pm | In Main | No CommentsWe went to a company sponsored picnic, held at a nearby waterpark. It’s a great deal, we get into the park for free, and they provide food and drinks. We spent nearly all the time camped out in the toddler area. The toddler area had a shallow pool, with a play area right in the water. Sean had fun going down the slides into the water. He wasn’t quite brave enough to go down the taller slides. I don’t know if he is afraid of the slides, or the water. My guess would be the water. Sean hasn’t been into the pool this year, and last year it took a few days for him to get used to being in the water. I briefly took Sean into the wave pool, but he preferred the toddler area. Ethan did not like the cold water, so he spent most of the day in the stroller. Ethan didn’t seem to mind, and he took a nice long nap. We stayed until late in the afternoon. Overall, it was a good day.

Catch Me If You Can
May 11, 2003 on 7:34 pm | In Movie Reviews | No CommentsLast night’s movie was Catch Me If You Can. I thought this was a fascinating movie, about the life of a con artist. It’s a long movie, but I had no problem watching it until the end. Other than that, there’s nothing really special about this movie. It certainly isn’t one of Steven Spielberg’s memorable movies. I rate this movie a B+.
Buy it.
