I paid to have our last remaining mesquite tree in the front yard trimmed. They did a good job, going way up into the tree to thin out the branches. This should lower the resistance, so it doesn’t get uprooted like the other tree. It was good timing too. We had a near storm this evening. Lots of thunder and lightning, and some wind. It looked like it rained just west of us, but not at our house. We are supposed to have storms through tomorrow. The good news is that the storms are expected to cool off the temperatures. Today’s high tied the record high of 113 degrees.

Sean can behave when he wants to. He had perfect manners eating dinner tonight, and he was well behaved when we went swimming in the pool. Other than that, he was a terror. I think part of the problem is that he just doesn’t know how to behave when he is with Ethan. He wants to get Ethan’s attention, but there’s not much he can do to get it, other than being too rough with him. I suppose all of this will end when Ethan gets old enough to go rough and tumble with Sean.

I forgot to mention that Ethan was ten months old yesterday.

Ethan has turned into quite the climber. He climbed on top of Sean’s trampoline, sitting up in the middle of it. I have also noticed that he has learned a trick to help him get down from a standing position. He puts his arm behind him so that he doesn’t land on his rear end too hard.

It was a hot day today. I had a tough time getting the yardwork done this morning. We took Sean to the McDonald’s play area in the afternoon, since it seemed like it was too warm even in the house. This evening, Sean and I cooled off in the pool.

Update: The high today was 116 degrees, setting a record for this day.

We had dinner guests this evening, so we spent a good part of the afternoon getting the house ready. Cortney fixed a good meal, and we had fun in the pool afterwards.

Sean is definitely feeling better today. He had plenty of energy at the ball pit at Burger King this evening.

Ethan is starting to get good at going from a crawling position to sitting or standing. He crawls so fast, then when I turn my head away for second and look back, he is sitting up. I haven’t actually seen him do it yet.

We had an ambitious evening planned for today. We had an appointment for Ethan to get his pictures taken. We wanted to do it when he was nine months, but we’re a little late. We also wanted to get some pictures with both Sean and Ethan. So, we thought it would be a good idea to get Sean’s hair cut first. The haircut went well. We went to the children’s place where he can sit in a car and watch his favorite video while getting his hair cut. Sean didn’t mind too much. The only thing he really didn’t like was having the hair fall down his shirt. After that, it was time for the pictures. Amazingly, both kids cooperated, and we got some great pictures. Here are the proofs: (click to see the full size image)

Cortney and Ethan were doing better today, but still haven’t fully recovered. I’m starting to feel like I’m coming down with something, so we all took it easy this evening.

Sean isn’t doing much better today, still suffering from the croup. Now, Cortney is also sick with a cold. I took Ethan to the library tonight for baby story time, leaving Cortney and Sean at home. Ethan enjoyed himself.

The movie of the weekend was Basic. This movie is about an investigation concerning an army training accident, staring John Travolta and Samuel Jackson. It wasn’t a bad movie, but I think it tried to be clever with a number of plot twists. I think it had one plot twist too many. I rate it a B.

Ethan stood up in his crib for the first time today. We’re going to have to make sure we keep the crib rail up now.

Just when Sean was starting to feel better… He woke up this morning with a case of croup. Other being tired and sounding horse, he seems to be ok.
