September 19, 2003 on 10:04 pm | In Main | No CommentsWe went to Burger King this evening, and Sean had his usual fun in the play area. What was different this evening was that Ethan actually enjoyed playing in the ball pit. I’ve put Ethan in the ball pit before, but he usually started crying after just a little while. Tonight, he really enjoyed himself. With the other kids going in and out of the ball pit, Ethan tended to get buried up to his neck in balls, but he didn’t seem to mind at all.

September 18, 2003 on 9:08 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean was asleep on the couch when it was time for soccer practice. He woke up just enough to climb into the car seat. When we arrived at the field, he was still groggy. It’s a good thing I brought him food to eat for dinner, because I think he needed the energy. He eventually got into the practice, but Sean is still nervous kicking the ball in a crowd.

September 17, 2003 on 8:12 pm | In Main | No CommentsEthan had fun cruising the furniture and playing with his miniature soccer ball this evening. Ethan can now climb up on the sofa directly from the ground. He grabs a hold of the slipcover and then pulls himself up. Cortney thinks Ethan waved for the first time yesterday, but I’m not so sure. He may have just moved his arm.

September 17, 2003 on 8:09 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean thinks we have an apple tree in the yard. Sean has actually seen an apple tree, as we went to an orchard last year. The apples in this orchard were all green, so I guess when Sean saw the green fruit hanging from the orange tree, he thought they were apples. I tell him they are oranges, but he just says they are not orange. It will be interesting to see Sean’s reaction when the fruit turns yellow later this year, then orange at the beginning of next year.

September 16, 2003 on 9:06 pm | In Main | No CommentsEthan was all smiles tonight. He appears to be over his ear infections, but he still has a bit of a cough. It’s too bad I couldn’t spend more time with Ethan, but I had to go to Sean’s soccer practice.

September 16, 2003 on 9:05 pm | In Main | No CommentsTonight was soccer practice again for Sean. It was hot out, but Sean had plenty of energy. I still couldn’t get him to particpate in the scrimmage game. I told him we could go to the playground if he played, but he said he didn’t want to go to the playground. Mabye Thursday night.

September 15, 2003 on 8:08 pm | In Main | No CommentsI didn’t have much time to spend with the kids this evening, so I tried to make it quality time. I had to work late today, and soon after Cortney had people over to play bunko. Sean and I spent some time in the backyard. Over the weekend, he had made small piles of rocks all over the back patio. I mean he must have had at least a dozen piles. I’m sure Sean was proud of his effort, but I had to clean it up. You can’t walk out to the pool in bare feat if there are rocks on the patio. I cleaned up the rocks while Sean played with his toys. He wanted to make more piles of rocks, but I told him not to. I don’t think I got my point across until Sean tried to ride his bike. He could barely move it with all of the rocks. I told Sean this is why we don’t put rocks on the patio, and he seemed to understand. After the clean-up, we kicked the soccer ball around. Sean is starting to be able to change the direction of the ball while kicking it. Soon after we came inside, Cortney’s guests started to arrive. I put Sean to bed a few minutes early, then brought Ethan upstairs to get him away from the party. I let Ethan crawl around upstairs before feeding him his evening bottle. Ethan seemed happy when I put him to bed.

September 13, 2003 on 8:59 pm | In Main | No CommentsEthan is turning into a climber. He can now climb onto Sean’s little chair, and from there, climb up onto the sofas. While it is good to see Ethan progress, this means we are going to have to keep a careful eye on him while he is cruising the furniture. Ethan is still recovering from his cold, but his ear infections don’t seem to be bothering him.

September 13, 2003 on 8:52 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean’s first soccer game was today. Unfortunately, Sean didn’t play. I think the crowd scared him. The school we went to was holding t-ball and flag football games as well as soccer. Over a thousand people were on the fields of the school. The coach wanted to start Sean, but he didn’t want to play. I figured, no problem. He could watch the game, then go in later. As soon as play started, he wanted to go play. He didn’t understand that he had to wait for someone to leave the field before he could go back in. When it was his turn to go back in again, he didn’t want to. The coach even asked Sean to kick the ball off to start the second half, but he wouldn’t even do that, even with me standing on the field. Even though this was frustrating, we don’t want to put too much pressure on Sean, to the point where he doesn’t enjoy playing. Sean wasn’t the only one who didn’t want to play. Even the coach’s son, who played most of the game, just stood still, and didn’t go after the ball. Our team only had three players, plus the goalie, who had any interest in the game at all. I think the coach was more frustrated than we were.

September 12, 2003 on 9:55 pm | In Main | No CommentsWe had a tough time with Sean today. For some reason, he just would not behave. He even did not behave at the Burger King ball pit. We had to leave shortly after we arrived. Maybe Sean misses school or something.

September 12, 2003 on 9:51 pm | In Main | No CommentsCortney took Ethan to the doctor today. It turns out that he has infections in both ears. The doctor was surpised that he wasn’t in more pain than he has been. Oh, and Sean’s blood test was negative.

September 11, 2003 on 9:31 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean showed some improvement in soccer practice this evening. His best moment was before practice even started. I had just finished putting Sean’s cleats on, and we walked onto the field. I noticed another boy was kicking Sean’s ball. I told Sean he need to go after the ball. He sprinted across the field, outrunning the other boy. Just as he passed the other boy, he smoothly kicked the ball and took it over. Sean also had a good moment during practice. On a one-on-one drill against a goalie, Sean managed to score a goal. I did have to bribe Sean again with a trip to the playground next to the practice field to get Sean to finish the soccer drills. Sean had company on the playground. Most of his team went over to the playground after practice.

September 11, 2003 on 9:19 pm | In Main | No CommentsEthan is 11 months old, and I didn’t even see him today. He hadn’t woken up yet when I left for work, and was taking a nap when I came home from work. He was still sleeping when I took Sean to soccer practice. Ethan was in bed by the time Sean and I came home. I did sneek into his room to say goodnight to him.
