Sean’s soccer game was cancelled because the field was flooded from yesterday’s rain. So, we went to the zoo instead. Overall, it was a nice day, but it was just a little too warm in the sun. Ethan and I had an inside tour of the coyote exhibit. The zookeeper conducting the tour brought us right inside with the coyotes. The two coyotes were afraid of the group of people, and ran away from us. I didn’t realize that they burrow into the ground to sleep at night. Ethan and I also saw the wolves being fed. Sean had lot’s of fun seeing all of the animals. I think the tiger was his favorite.

Ethan now has seven teeth. Some time in the last week or so, we missed a tooth coming in. Soon, Ethan will have eight teeth.

This evening, Cortney dropped me off at the Burger King with Sean and Ethan, while Cortney and her parents went out to dinner. I had a tough time at first. After Cortney left, Sean ran out into the parking lot, looking for his grandparents. Once I had Sean back inside again, he was happy to play on the ball pit. Sean was really excited when Cortney and her parents showed up. Ethan had fun playing in the ball pit as well, until Sean ran into him. Sean was more happy to go home with his grandparents here, so we were able to leave quietly.

We had an interesting day today. Early this morning, we had really heavy rain. Later on, we woke up to the sound of the backup power supplies for the computer beeping. We had lost power. Sean just didn’t understand that the lights don’t work without electricity. Fortunately, the power came back on before long. When I left for work, it was still raining, and the roads were flooded. At work, just three miles away, it was barely sprinkling, and it had hardly rained at all.

Cortney, her parents, Sean and Ethan went to a local farm today. Sean had fun with the farm animals. The brought back some pumpkins from the pumpkin patch.

Tonight was pilot ground school again. This time, we took a tour of the local regional airport. We took a tour of the airport tower, had a tour of a medivac helicopter by the helicopter pilot, and a tour of a Cessna 182 aircraft. It was a lot of fun.

Cortney’s parents flew into town today. Both Corky and Leslie went with Sean, Ethan and I to Sean’s soccer practice this evening. Sean did well tonight, participating in all of the soccer drills. We rewarded Sean with a trip to the nearby playground, where we let him play for awhile before going home for the evening.

Tuesday night is library night for us. This time, everyone went. Cortney watched Sean at the train table while I took Ethan to baby time. Ethan was a little bored with the stories, but he enjoyed the songs. Afterwards, Sean was initially willing to sit down for story time, but he ran out just before story time started. Rather than repeat last week’s fiasco, I came up with the clever idea of grabbing Sean’s favorite library train car, and took it with me into the story room. Sean followed me into the room. While he started off by playing with the train cars on the floor of the story room, he was more than happy to listen to the stories and watch the movie.

The high temperatures here have finally broken below the 100’s. We took advantage of that by going to the park closest to our house. Ethan was happy just to sit in the grass and play with his little soccer ball. Sean couldn’t decide whether to play on the playground, kick his soccer ball, or just run around. He ended up doing all three. We didn’t plan for all of the running around, so we had to leave early to get Sean some water.

Today, we went to the Adobe Mountain Railroad park. They give free rides on Sunday afternoons. Cortney and Sean went on three rides in a row. They have four different sets of tracks, with each ride about 2 miles or so, taking about twenty minutes. Ethan fell asleep during the first ride, so I held Ethan, waiting for Sean and Cortney on the second ride. Ethan woke up in time for us all to go on the third ride. Sean was real excited about the steam engine they were working on, and kept looking for it whenever the train was at the station. We all had fun, and I’m sure we will go back again.

Ethan still isn’t walking more than a few steps, but he is much better at standing up. He can now stand up for a good twenty seconds or so, and can even reach a standing position from sitting. He enjoys walking back and forth on the couch. Sean did the same thing when he was Ethan’s age. Ethan has now learned to pull off all the pillows off of the sofa, so that he has unimpeded access to climbing up on and walking on the sofa.

Sean had another soccer game this morning. This time, he actually played for about half the game. At one point, he even tried to kick the ball! At least it’s an improvement. We rewarded him with a trip to Burger King afterwards. Many other parents had the same idea; there were quite a few kids with jerseys on in the play area.

I decided to surprise Cortney and come home from work early. My surprise was disappointing, because when I arrived home, both kids were sleeping. After awhile, Sean woke up, so I took him to Burger King while Ethan stayed home with Cortney. Sean was still drowsy when we arrived, but after dinner, he was full of energy for play. After we came home, Sean and Ethan had fun playing together. Sean was throwing Ethan’s spit-up cloth and bib up in the air. Ethan loved it. After Sean became tired of that game, Ethan continued by throwing the spit-up cloth and bib up in the air himself. That’t the first time I’ve really seen Ethan throw anything, and he had no problem tossing the objects up into the air.

Not much to say for today; this evening was pilot ground school class again. The class is loads of fun, but I miss spending time with Sean and Ethan.

Sean did fairly well in soccer practice this evening. He particpated in all of the drills for the first half of practice. After that, it seemed like he became bored, and wasn’t interested anymore. When he was invovled in the practice, he did well, kicking the ball into the goal most of the time.
