It was a nice cool, pleasant evening for Sean’s soccer practice. Sean did well at his drills, although it seems he misses the idea of the sprinting drills. Sean always follows the crowd, and frequently slows down to look at any objects nearby. The other kids always have to wait for Sean to finish. I know he could run fast if he wanted to. Still, he did well enough for me to reward him to a trip to the playground. As we were packing up, I put Ethan into the stroller before taking of Sean’s cleats and putting on his tennis shoes. As we were just ready to leave for the playground, I noticed Ethan was missing his pacifier. I knew Ethan had his pacifier in his mouth when I put him in the stroller. I looked in the stroller, and even pulled Ethan out to give him a pat search in case it fell down his clothing. I make a point to look for the pacifier when Ethan loses it, as lately, now that he is walking, we tend to find it in unusual places. The dim light made it even harder for me to find the pacifier. Finally, I gave up, and went over to the playground. After playing for I while, I was still bothered, not by the fact that I lost the pacifier, but because it made no sense that I couldn’t find it. Shortly after, I thought to check the fold up chair. Sure enough, that’s where it was. Ethan must have thrown it in the chair while I was changing Sean’s shoes. Mystery solved.

I took Sean and Ethan to the library myself tonight, as Cortney wanted to participate in moms night out. Both Sean and Ethan wore well behaved. Sean surprised me when the librarian walked into the story room, and then Sean grabbed a train and walked into the story room himself, without me even asking. I was disappointed myself when there was no movie, since the projector bulb was burnt out. I let Sean play at the train table after story time, and everything was fine until it was time to go. Sean didn’t want to leave. Sean was clearly tired, as he couldn’t make up his mind whether he wanted to walk or be carried. Of course, I opted for having Sean walk. Carrying both kids and the backpack for any distance is tough for me. Sean was kicking and screaming when I put him into his car seat, but by the time we arrived home, he was quiet again, and I had no trouble putting him to bed. I’m enjoying the quiet in the house as I write this.

It was cool enough this evening to go to the park with long pants on. Ethan and Sean both enjoyed time on the swings, and they both enjoyed going down the slides. At one point, I was trying to teach Sean to wait his turn while Ethan was crawling up the stairs to the slide. Sean didn’t want to wait, so I said he could climb up the slide if he wanted to. I was surprised to hear him say “no, that’s too dangerous”. I wonder where he picked that up.

Today, we went to the Pioneer Living History Village. Just after we arrived, they had a gun fight reenactment. Sean couldn’t stand the loud noise of the guns, so I picked him and carried him just far enough away that the noise wasn’t too bad, but I could still see the show. Sean liked the miners area. He thought the railroad tracks for the ore cars were neat. He also had fun with the goat pen. We bought a bag of food, but Sean didn’t like having the goats eat out of his hand, so Cortney and I fed the goats. Ethan had fun being pushed around in the stroller. I let him out to walk in some of the houses. Towards the end, he was sleepy, and he wouldn’t sleep in his stroller, so I had to carry him the rest of the way. It was a good trip, and a good way to spend the afternoon.

We went to Burger King this evening, since we missed last night’s outing due to the halloween activities, and it was too wet (yes, we had rain here) to do anything outside. Ethan had fun in the ball pit. He climbed into the play area on his own, and he crawled through a ten foot tube all by himself. If Sean wasn’t knocking him around all the time, Ethan would really enjoy himself. Sean wasn’t all bad. He was patient when we went shopping to a few stores before Burger King, and he helped out feeding Ethan. Sean was tired went we arrived home, and asked to go to bed early. We obliged him, so I hope he won’t get up early.

What a change in weather from last week’s soccer game. Insteady of hot and sunny, in the 90’s, we had cold and rainy, in the 60’s. I think Sean prefers the cooler weather. He played the entire game. It was his best outing so far. He still doesn’t have the idea of going after the ball and taking it to the goal, but at least he made the effort to play. He says he had a good time in the game, and that’s what counts.
