Sean Has Fun at the Amusement Park

January 31, 2004 on 6:21 pm | In Main | No Comments

Cortney wanted to do something different today, so we went to a nearby amusement park. We bought Sean a pass so he could ride the rides as many times as he wanted. He certainly enjoyed himself, especially on the boat ride. Ethan had fun on the carousel, and the train. After a long afternoon at the park, we were all tired afterwards. Ethan fell asleep during the car ride home, and didn’t even wake up when I carried him in the house.

A New Stage of Parenting

January 31, 2004 on 6:17 pm | In Main | No Comments

Ethan can now open the doors in the house. He has been doing this for the last few days, but I caught him for the first time this morning. This means Cortney and I will now have to keep a much closer eye on what Ethan is doing.

New Site Design is Progressing

January 30, 2004 on 9:12 pm | In Main | No Comments

I’m starting to make progress on my web site redesign. The basic layout is complete. I just need to work on the logo, then tweak the settings. I don’t know how much time I have to work on it though, so I don’t expect to make the debut until at least next weekend.

Sean Recognizes a Friend

January 30, 2004 on 9:06 pm | In Main | No Comments

We made our weekly outing to Burger King this evening. The most interesting thing was when Sean became real excited when another boy showed up. He kept saying “Hi, Kobe” (I’m guessing at the spelling). I have seen Sean in the past confuse other people with his friends, so I assume this was the case here, particularly since we did not recognize the boy. I actually said, “Sean, that’s not Kobe”. It turns out I was wrong, and Sean was right!. The other boy had just started preschool, and had only been in Sean’s class a week. It ended up being a crowded evening in the play area. Fortunately, there were no older kids, and most of them were well behaved. More than once, Ethan went into the ball pit when it was crowded, and ended up being buried by the balls. He is becoming more and more comfortable in the ball pit, so he did not seem to mind too much. Both Sean and Ethan definitely had a good time.

Ethan Goes to the Doctor

January 29, 2004 on 7:14 pm | In Main | No Comments

Cortney took Ethan to the doctor today. Ethan has a mild ear infection, and a sinus infection. That would certainly explain his fussiness this week. Ethan is on an anti-biotic.

A Night at the Park

January 29, 2004 on 7:12 pm | In Main | No Comments

Despite not feeling much better, I took Sean and Ethan to the park this evening. I was glad we did, because we all had a good time. I taught Sean had to draw the letter “S” in the sand. Just a few more letters, and he will be able to write his name. Ethan had fun going back and forth and the toddler playset. When it was time to go, I came up with a novel way to convince Sean it was time to go. I was telling Sean that we were going home soon. Ethan apparently understood the word “home”, and walked over to the stroller, and indicated he wanted to get in. I then told Sean that if he did not get in the stroller now, that Ethan would take the front seat, which is Sean’s favorite. Sean than ran over and climbed into the stroller. He had no complaints about going home.

A Day Off of Work

January 28, 2004 on 7:17 pm | In Main | No Comments

This cold has finally gotten to me to the point I decided to take the day off of work. I did spend some time with Ethan this morning while Cortney went to the doctor, and time with both Sean and Ethan this evening. At the end of the day, I still feel tired and run down, but my cold sypmptoms are better.

Sean’s Parent Teacher Conference

January 27, 2004 on 8:14 pm | In Main | No Comments

We had a parent-teacher conference to discuss Sean’s IEP today. We met with Sean’s teacher and his speech therapist. Apparently Sean has made significant progress in the last month or two. We closed out all but one of his prior objectives, since he has mastered the other items. Ironically, Sean is well ahead of where he needs to be academically, and he is ready for Kindergarten in this area. Sean has new objectives for speech and occupational therapy. The teacher and speech therapist said we should have no problem having Sean ready for kindergarten in these areas for the next year. Sean will continue to get one-on-one time with both the speech and occupational therapists. The other interesting thing was that Sean has no behavioral problems at school; not even the things he commonly does at home. I suppose the good news is that Sean recognizes the seriousness of school, and will be a successful student. Now Cortney and I just need to figure out why he behaves at school, and have him behave the same way at home.

Sean Plays His First Boardgame

January 26, 2004 on 7:27 pm | In Main | No Comments

Sean and I played a game of Candyland. This was Sean’s first time at playing a boardgame. He picked it up right away. The only thing I had to do was remind him of which way the path on the board went. Sean had fun playing, so we will probably do this again.

Update on Recent Events

January 25, 2004 on 8:11 pm | In Main | No Comments

Sean continues to sit on the potty, but it’s still “after the fact”.

Sean seems over his croup/cold, but Ethan seems to be a bit worse.

New Web Site Design Coming

January 25, 2004 on 8:10 pm | In Main | No Comments

I’ve started working on an update to the design for this page. I have no complaints about the current design visually, although I think it is time for a change. I also want to fix some of the interface problems, such as links to both the left and right of the main content. When I’m done, I hope for a cleaner, slightly bolder look.

Ethan Says A New Word

January 25, 2004 on 8:06 pm | In Main | No Comments

Ethan said a new word today – “backpack”. He didn’t say it clearly, but you could tell what he was saying. We keep Sean’s school backpack on the handle of the closet door. Ethan grabbed it and was carrying it across the room as he was using his new word.

Sean Sits on the Potty

January 24, 2004 on 8:27 pm | In Main | No Comments

We had some success putting Sean on the potty. This past Christmas, we tried potty training Sean, taking him out of diapers and putting underwear on him. It didn’t work, because he refused to sit on the potty. So it was a big success when we were able to sit Sean on the potty. Not only that, but it was the toiled with a smaller insert to keep Sean from falling through the seat. The secret was to put Ethan on first, then give Ethan lots of praise for sitting on the toilet. After that, Sean was more than willing to do it on his own.

Sean Feels Better Today

January 23, 2004 on 9:05 pm | In Main | No Comments

Sean is doing much better today. He had just a slight cough this morning, and you could just tell he was feeling better. Still, he missed out on Burger King. He was upset when we told him he wasn’t going, but he calmed down once he started eating dinner. Ethan is doing just about the same as yesterday – he has a runny nose, but is otherwise fine.

Sean Misses a Day of School

January 22, 2004 on 5:12 pm | In Main | No Comments

Sean woke up with a case of the croup this morning, so no school for Sean. Even though Sean was hoarse and coughing, he still had plenty of energy. So, Cortney had a double whammy: a child home from school, and an active one at that. We can’t tell if Ethan is sick. He has a runny nose, but otherwise he seems ok.
