Sean Goes Hiking
March 6, 2004 on 9:34 pm | In Main | No CommentsSince the weather was nice today, I decided to take Sean hiking. I waited until Ethan took his nap, just after we finished lunch. Sean wasn’t too thrilled about hiking, so I had to bribe him with a trip to the playground afterwords. Still, Sean made it around the mountain. The cutest part of the hike was when I pointed out a saguaro cactus that had broken and two and had died. I said the cactus was broken. Sean replied “Oh, grandpa can fix it when he comes out to visit”.
Sean and Ethan Pictures
March 6, 2004 on 9:30 pm | In Main | No CommentsWe took Sean and Ethan to get pictures taken this morning. Both kids cooperated, and I think we got some good results:
A Conversation With Ethan
March 5, 2004 on 8:35 pm | In Main | No CommentsOn the car ride home this evening, I actually had a bit of a conversation with Ethan. I asked Ethan, “can you say backpack?”. His reply was “baa-paa”. I then asked, can you say “Daddy”, which he had no problem with. Same with “Mommy”. I then asked, “can you say Sean”?, which he replied with “Sha”. That’s the best Ethan has done with pronouncing words.
Sean and Ethan Get Haircuts
March 5, 2004 on 8:32 pm | In Main | No CommentsWe took Sean and Ethan out to get haircuts this evening. Apparently, a few other people had the same idea, so we had to wait nearly an hour. Sean was more than happy to play at the train table at the kid’s hair place, but Ethan kept wandering the store and getting into things. When our time finally arrived, Sean was unhappy getting the haircut, but at least he didn’t cry this time. Ethan didn’t seem to care at all about getting his haircut. His only problem was that he kept looking around at the goings on, creating a moving target for the hairdresser. The outcome was good, and both kids now look sharp.
Lousy Weather Today
March 4, 2004 on 9:09 pm | In Main | No CommentsWe had lousy weather today. Cold and rainy. We had thunder and lightning, and even some hail. It was good that Sean had his gym class this evening, so he had the opportunity to work off some energy. At the class, Sean learned something new today. On the trampoline, he can no land on his rear end and get back up, landing on his feet. If he keeps this up, he will be the star of his gym class.
Sean Gets an Addicting Gift
March 3, 2004 on 7:38 pm | In Main | No CommentsWe came home late from the library last night, and found a gift bag on the porch. It was a birthday gift for Sean from his friends Hannah and Cloe, who were out of town for Sean’s birthday. The gift was a little magnet construction set. I opened it for Sean after dinner tonight, and I ended up playing non-stop with it for over an hour.
Sean Wakes Up Sick
March 3, 2004 on 7:28 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean woke up not feeling well this morning. He had a mild fever and an upset stomach. Since he was not up and about with his usual energy, we kept him home from school. This evening, he was obviously feeling much better. I’m wondering if Sean has the same thing Ethan was suffering with for a while.
Sean Checks Out His First Library Book
March 2, 2004 on 8:14 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean checked out his first book at the library. Actually, he checked out two books. I tried to show Sean how to use the online catalogue, but he wasn’t too interested. The subject we looked up was “Trains”. Thanks to the Dewey Decimal System, I had to look at two different shelves. We had plenty of books to choose from, and I ended up picking six or so to hand to Sean. Sean had very strong opinions about which books he wanted, so we took the two he chose. After returning the other books to the shelves, I had Sean carry his two books to the checkout counter. Sean handed the two books over. I gave Sean my library card, and he also handed that over. After a scan of the card and the two books, we were quickly done, and Sean carried his books out.
Ethan had a good time at the library as well, but he was very active. He seemed more interested in exploring than sitting still for story time. Of course, Ethan likes the songs, and the movie at the end of story time, so he sat still for those. And, a new word for Ethan — he has learned to say “Uh-oh”.
Ethan is Starting to Pronounce Words
March 1, 2004 on 7:45 pm | In Main | No CommentsCortney took Sean to gym class this evening, so I stayed home with Ethan. I was reading Ethan some of his books, and I noticed he was trying to repeat back some of the words I was saying. When I said “leopard”, he came back with “epo”. When I said “boa constrictor”, he managed to say “boa”. Ethan is only saying a handfull of words, all of them beginning with b: ball, backpack, bubble. But I think anyday now, he might start speaking more words.
