The Antiboitic Three
May 18, 2004 on 7:27 pm | In Main | No CommentsToday, I joined Sean and Ethan in the amoxycillin croud. I finally broke down and called the doctor, because I wasn’t getting any better. The doctor decided that if I have been sick this long, chances are that I have an infection. I certainly hope I start to feel better in a day or two.
Third Year Blogversary
May 17, 2004 on 9:05 pm | In Main | No CommentsToday is the third year anniversary of this web journal, or the third year blogversary. No I didn’t make that word up. If you check out the “On this day in:” link on the left, you will see I wasn’t writing much when I first started.
Ethan’s Cranky
May 17, 2004 on 8:22 pm | In Main | No CommentsEthan woke up from his nap in a cranky mood. He wasn’t interested in dinner, something to drink, or even being held. I thought he might be in pain from his illness or something, so I gave him some children’s Advil. After close to an hour, he seemed to feel better, and started playing more. He wasn’t really better until it was time for bed. I was considerning keeping Ethan up a little longer, but Cortney was having guests over for Bunco, so I thought it would be in his best interestes to go to bed on time. He complained a little at bedtime, but went to sleep without any problems. I hope he is better tomorrow. Sean was doing just fine, and had a good time at gym class.
Sean and I use the pool
May 16, 2004 on 7:16 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean and I used the pool for the first time this year. Actually, I have been in a couple of times, when I fell in by accident trimming around the pool. The pool water was very pleasant at around 78 degrees. Walking out of the pool isn’t so comfortable, as it is dry enough that you cool off quickly. Sean was cold after a half hour or so, primarily from running in and out of the pool. It was close to dinner time anyway, so that was a good time to leave the pool.
Ethan Uses a Fork
May 15, 2004 on 9:37 pm | In Main | No CommentsTonight is the second time I have let Ethan use a fork with his dinner. Both times were with pasta. The first time I gave him the fork, he new what to do with it, and was successful with his first use. I guess he has been studying us use a fork for awhile. Ethan is very patient, and even though using a fork takes longer, he insists on using it. It took Ethan close to an hour tonight to finish his pasta. At least he was happy doing it.
Ethan Goes Back to the Doctor
May 14, 2004 on 8:03 pm | In Main | No CommentsCortney took Ethan back to the doctor today. He was running a fever and had colored discharge from his nose. Ethan is now on antibiotics, joining Sean. Ethan doesn’t have any ear infections, but the doctor said that would have been likely if we didn’t bring him in. Ironically, Sean was the sickest member of the family two days ago; now, he is the healthiest. Cortney is threatening to go to the doctor on Monday if she doesn’t feel better. I feel more worn down than anything. It has been a long week for me, and fighting off this illness hasn’t made it any better.
Ethan Says "Yes"
May 13, 2004 on 9:02 pm | In Main | No CommentsEthan is now answering “yes” when you ask him a question. Ethan, do you want more to eat? “Yes.” Ethan, do you want your milk? “Yes.” The problem is that he tends to answer “yes” to all questions. Just before bedtime, I asked Ethan if he had a poopy diaper. He said “yes”, and even climbed up onto the couch where we changed his diaper. It turns out that his diaper was clean and dry.
At Least Sean is Getting Better
May 12, 2004 on 8:24 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean is starting to do better, but his appetite is down because of the antibiotics. We kept him home from school today because his conjunctivitis was still noticeable, and Sean has a bad cough. We do plan to send Sean to school tomorrow. And Ethan is doing just fine. The problem is Cortney and I are starting to get sick. We both now have a sore throat. I feel like if I can avoid any infections, like Sean and Ethan had, I should be alright. Cortney is considering seeing a doctor, since she has been sick longer than I have.
Ethan is 19 Months Old
May 11, 2004 on 7:05 pm | In Main | No CommentsEthan is 19 months old today. We did not do much to celebrate, although Ethan was able to play with his brother all day long. Sean missed another day of school. The problem wasn’t so much that Sean wasn’t feeling well, but it was obvious he still had conjunctivitis.
Sean’s Sick
May 10, 2004 on 7:13 pm | In Main | No CommentsCortney took Sean to the doctor today. He felt warm, and hasn’t been himself lately. It turns out that he has an ear infection in both ears, and conjunctivitis. Well, we knew about the conjunctivitis ahead of time, since he got it from Ethan. If the antibiotics kick in tonight, Sean still might make it to school tomorrow. As it was, Sean missed school today, and Cortney had to cancel her playgroup meeting.
A Day at the Water Park
May 9, 2004 on 7:48 pm | In Main | No CommentsCourtesy of the company spring picnic, we spent the day at the local water park. We all had much more fun than last year. Sean liked the small slide area, as well as the children’s pool. He was happy to go down one slide after another. Ethan had a good time sitting in my lap on the lazy river, and even on my lap in a tube in the wave pool. Ethan actually fell asleep on the lazy river raft ride late in the afternoon, and that was the signal it was time to go home. We were all tired by the time we arrived home.
Happy Mother’s Day, Cortney
May 9, 2004 on 7:45 pm | In Main | No CommentsFor my Mother’s Day gift to Cortney, I let her sleep in this morning. That included waking up in the middle of the night for Sean’s request for a glass of water. Sean and Ethan both gave Cortney Mother’s day cards. I was going to serve Cortney breakfast in bed, but she did not want the cheese omelet I was planning to fix.
No Swimming Today
May 8, 2004 on 9:53 pm | In Main | No CommentsWe were all set to use the pool today, for the first time this year. Even though the high temperature today was 100 degrees, I wanted to wait for the warmest part of the day, so the pool water would be as warm as possible. Sean was excited about using the pool all day long. I initially told Sean we would go in when Ethan wakes up from his nap, but Ethan ended up taking a long nap, so I told Sean we would go in after dinner. At dinner time, Sean said he wasn’t hungry, and went into the living room to lie down on the floor. Sean ended up falling asleep, so I carried him up to his bed. He never did wake up, so we never went into the pool. Oh well. At least tomorrow, we will be going to a waterpark, so Sean was have all the pool time he wants.
Trip to Burger King
May 7, 2004 on 8:06 pm | In Main | No CommentsI took Sean and Ethan to Burger King this evening, giving Cortney a break from the child-rearing responsibilities. Ethan is getting better and wading across the ball pit, and climbing through the rest of the play area. Sean and I discussed plans for Mother’s day. Sean wanted to get Cortney a big present. I asked what kind of big present, and he said a coal car. I told Sean that Cortney might not appreciate that gift. Interesting to see what runs through the mind of a four year old.
Sean Still Enjoys Gym Class
May 6, 2004 on 8:26 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean has been going to tumbling class for some time now, and his enthusiasm for it has not waned one bit. Tonight was a bit of a challenge though. Cortney bought some Thomas the Tank Engine expansion track, and Sean really wanted to play with that, rather than go to tumbling. But, I did not have to spend too much effort to convince him to go to tumbling.
