Happy Halloween!

October 31, 2004 on 8:13 pm | In Main | No Comments

This year was my time to take Sean and Ethan trick-or-treating, while Cortney manned the door with the candy bowl. Sean was dressed up as Tigger, while Ethan was dressed up as a lion. I have to admit, Ethan looked cute in his lion outfit. We had perfect weather this evening; cool enough to not get warm in the costumes, but not too cold.

It took a house or two for Sean and Ethan to get the hang of trick-or-treating, but after that, both were able to say “trick-or-treat”, and “thank you” afterwards. Sean is now tall enough that he can reach the doorbells easily, so I was able to watch from the street. We covered the cul-de-sac west of our house, and all the way down the street around the corner. That was enough houses to fill the kid’s pumpkin buckets full of candy. Half way through, I had to carry Ethan’s bucket from house to house, as it was too heavy for him to carry. Ethan tripped quite a few times, but he was excited enough to get up and keep going.

Both Sean and Ethan were getting a lot of attention from the parents with their cute costumes. They certainly had fun, and I enjoyed taking them out. They were each allowed one piece of candy before bedtime. I have no idea what we are going to do with the rest of that candy.

Saturday Morning at the Park

October 30, 2004 on 8:44 pm | In Main | No Comments

It was a little cool out this morning, but I dressed up Sean and Ethan in sweats and took them to the park. Both Sean and Ethan had fun, although Ethan was just a bit out of sorts. Ethan did not sleep well last night, so he may have just been tired. A few other kids stopped by, so Sean had someone his age to play with.

It was nice enough out that we ended up walking to the other park near out house, so Sean and Ethan had a variety of play equipment to use. I was surprised to see Ethan did not like the baby swing, even though he has no problem with the swings in our yard.

We would have stayed outside even longer, but we had to get home for lunch.

Cortney’s Big Halloween Party

October 29, 2004 on 9:11 pm | In Main | No Comments

Cortney hosted her big MOMS club Halloween party today. Cortney has been working for months to plan everything and make decorations for this party. She said she had 17 moms show up. That must have been a lot of kids running around the house. Sean and Ethan both said they had fun. Ethan even put on his costume after he saw all of the other kids dressed up. Up to this point, Ethan has refused to put on his lion costume, to the point where Sean calls it the crying lion outfit. It sounds like Cortney’s party was a big success.

Celebration Dinner

October 28, 2004 on 7:55 pm | In Main | No Comments

I took Cortney and the kids out to dinner this evening to celebrate. We went to the Cheesecake Factory, which is usually out of our price range for dinner. The cause for the celebration is my promotion, raise, and transfer to a leadership development group. I was just given the offer today, which I immediately accepted. I will start the new job after two weeks to allow for time to clean up the responsibilities with my current assignment. This is a big career opportunity for me, and I am excited and nervous at the same time.

Sean’s School Halloween Party

October 28, 2004 on 7:52 pm | In Main | No Comments

I met Cortney and Ethan at Sean’s school today. Sean arrived on the school bus just as we got there. Today was the pre-school Halloween celebration. Sean was dressed up in his Tigger costume. The pre-school students went on a combination parade and trick-or-treat walk around the school. Sean had a good time. After that, the normal class activities resumed. Ethan was able to participate in the crafts and snack time, as well as being able to play with all of the toys in the classroom. It was worth it for me took take the time off of work.

Is Ethan Outgrowing His Naps?

October 27, 2004 on 8:20 pm | In Main | No Comments

We can’t tell if this is just a phase, but Ethan seems to be outgrowing his naps. Cortney puts him in the crib just after lunch, but he hasn’t been falling asleep. It still seems like he needs a midday nap, because he gets tired and cranky by the end of the day if he doesn’t. Part of the problem is that Ethan gets excited when Sean comes home from school. This may just be a bad time of day to give Ethan a nap. Maybe we will try a different time.

Our Anniversary

October 26, 2004 on 9:07 pm | In Main | No Comments

Today is our 8th wedding anniversary. I brought home a dozen roses, and took Cortney (and the kids) out to dinner. It wasn’t the most romantic dinner, as the kids were rambunctious, but I enjoyed spending time with the family. Cortney gave me a card and scented shaving cream.

Even though the last few years of our marriage have been a challenge, I believe our relationship will continue to get better as Sean and Ethan mature.

Cranky Boy Goes to Gym Class

October 25, 2004 on 9:17 pm | In Main | No Comments

Sean did not show the slightest interest in going to gym class this evening. I had to wrestle him to get his clothes on, then had to wrestle him into the car. Once we where there, however, he had a great time. I wonder what got into him before class.

Fall Weather

October 24, 2004 on 7:56 pm | In Main | No Comments

Last night was the first night since early spring that the house cooled off. I like waking up to cooler air. It was a nice and sunny day today as well. I didn’t do much, but Cortney took Ethan and Sean out to ride scale-sized railroad trains nearby. It seems the cooler weather has also calmed the kids down. Ethan and Sean spent a good part of the day playing nicely together. I hope both the good weather and good behavior on the part of the kids continues.

A Trip to the Farm

October 23, 2004 on 9:47 pm | In Main | No Comments

Today, we went to visit a farm. It was a bit of drive, but there was lots of activities at this farm. Sean and Ethan had a blast. Sean and Ethan both went on the rides, and had fun in the play areas. We also did the corn maze, pumpkin patch, and petting zoo.

In fact, they had such a good time that they wore themselves out. We arrived when they opened at 10:00 AM, and left in the middle of the afternoon. Ethan fell asleep shortly after we drove away. When we arrived home, I asked Ethan if he wanted to lie down in the crib, and he said yes. I woke him up around dinner time, but he was real groggy and cranky. Sean wasn’t too bad, but I could tell he was tired. I had to put up with two fussy kids until it was time for bed. In the end, though, I think it was worth it.

An Active Day for the Kids

October 22, 2004 on 7:47 pm | In Main | No Comments

Cortney took Sean and Ethan to the railroad park today. She was gone most of the day. I took Sean and Ethan to the Burger King play area, but they tired early, and we left much earlier than usual. I could tell they were worn out. I hope they sleep well tonight, we have a big day planned for tomorrow.

A Cold and Rainy Day

October 21, 2004 on 7:56 pm | In Main | No Comments

A cold front came through today, bringing rain with it. It was 57 degrees when I was driving home from work! We bundled Ethan up in warm clothing, although Sean seemed fine going to his gym class in shorts. With today’s cool temperatures, it feels like summer is officially over, and fall is now here. And the rain should help our winter lawn. I’m looking forward to more outdoor activities in the cooler weather ahead.

Sean’s Parent-Teacher Conference

October 20, 2004 on 8:36 pm | In Main | No Comments

We all went to Sean’s school for his parent-teacher conference. Cortney and I learned that Sean has met nearly all his development goals. Sean’s teacher recommended that we wait until early January to set new goals, where we will set goals needed for transition to kindergarten.

I’m not surprised by the teacher’s report. Sean has really come a long way in the last six months. He has really improved his speaking and social skills. He’s already grasping some sophisticated concepts. And the good news is that Ethan is learning from Sean, so I’m not worried about Ethan’s development at all.

A Busy Day

October 19, 2004 on 9:14 pm | In Main | No Comments

Today was our make-up day for the photo session. We were able to successfully get our pictures. Sears portraits now has a photo quality printer at the store, so we even have the pictures. I would post the proofs, but I’m a bit tired.

After the pictures, we went to a MOMS club charity dinner event. This is just eating out for us, with a portion of the costs going to the MOMS club.

After dinner, we went to Wal-Mart to pick up a prescription, and went to Home Depot to pick up a new shower fixture. The old one cracked, and is spraying water everywhere.

It was past the kid’s bedtime when we finally arrived home. Cortney and I were pretty worn out ourselves. Unfortunately, tomorrow night will be a busy one as well.
