Sean Has a Good Gym Class

December 6, 2004 on 7:46 pm | In Main | No Comments

The gym was nearly empty tonight, except for the cheerleading squad. Sean was the only one in his class, which is good because he gets extra attention. Sean did well overall this evening, but the best part was when he came close to performing a cartwheel.

A Holiday On Ice

Today we went to see the Honeywell Holiday on Ice Show. It was in the same stadium where the Phoenix Suns play. Driving downtown and parking was no problem. We arrived early to get good seats. We managed to get center ice, second row, which wasn’t too bad. One problem was that we had to wait nearly an hour for the show to start, and keeping Sean and Ethan occupied wasn’t easy.

The show was mainly an ice skating exhibition, which was fine for Cortney and me, but the show did not interest Sean and Ethan much. Sean kept saying “Is this the last routine?” over and over again.

We did get a free gift for both Sean and Ethan, which wasn’t too bad. We had to wait to get out of the parking garage, and by the time we arrived home, most of the day had gone by. It was another gray and rainy day here, so the ice show wasn’t too bad of a way to spend the day. I’m not sure that we will be going next year though.

Holiday Season is Here

Today’s goal was to put up the outdoor Christmas lights. We started off the day with a trip to Wal-mart to buy some new lights. We picked up some rope lights and icicle lights, to add to the net lights we put on the hedges every year.

I braved cold weather and then rain to try and get the lights up. I put up the icicle lights over the garage roof line, which was quite a challenge. I used plastic clips to hold up the light strings, and they were tough to use. My first attempt resulted in an entire string falling to the ground, popping out one clip at a time. For the second attempt, I figured out a way to get the clips to stay attached to the roof tiles. I put up the rope lights around the front door. I will still need some time tomorrow to get everything just right; with the rain, I did not want to spend much time arranging things.

We ended the day with a fire in the fireplace, the first time we have done that this season. Sean and Ethan were a bit restless throughout the day, but there wasn’t much we could do. It was too cold and wet for them to play outside, and we were not about to brave the mall.

A Trip to McDonalds

I took Sean and Ethan to McDonalds this evening, land of the free video games. Even though I did not encourage Sean and Ethan to play the video games, and did not play myself, that is where they spend most of their time. I was disappointed that they did not spend more time getting exercise in the play area. At least they had fun. Sean ordered his own ice cream cone, and was very nice about sharing it with Ethan.

Ethan is Fine

Cortney called Ethan’s regular doctor to make an appointment a week from now. The office wanted to see Ethan right away, so Cortney brought him in. Ethan’s doctor doesn’t believe he has a fracture. After watching Ethan this evening, I would agree. Ethan seems to be doing just fine, even milking the extra attention.

I’m a bit tired. I’ve had some congestion the last few days, and I think a cold has caught up with me. I had Cortney take Sean to gym class tonight, so I could stay home and relax. I hope I’m better by this weekend.

Ethan Goes to the Urgent Care Center

December 1, 2004 on 8:14 pm | In Main | No Comments

I arrived home from work to a bit of a panic. Cortney had taken Ethan to the Urgent Care Center nearby. Apparently, Sean decided to climb up on top of the storage container where we keep the kid’s toys at the same time Ethan had his hand under the lid. After Ethan cried inconsolably and favored his hand, Cortney decided to have him looked at.

Cortney called me at home to tell me she was still waiting for Ethan to be seen, so I brought in dinner for Cortney and Ethan, leaving Laura at home to watch Sean. I arrived just as the doctor walked in, and I watched her examine Ethan. Her initial conclusion was that there was nothing wrong, but she wanted to take an x-ray just to make sure.

I left at the point, but the doctor saw something that worried her, and she sent Ethan home with a splint. When Ethan arrived home, he wouldn’t stop crying. It seems that Ethan did not like the splint. I thought I would loosen it a bit to help Ethan out. Ethan, the little booger, saw me take it off, then did it himself. Since he stopped crying, and was running around like his hand did not bother him, we left it off. Tomorrow should be an interesting day.
