A Rough Day

September 30, 2005 on 9:07 pm | In Main | No Comments

I woke up today feeling terrible. Not nauseas, but tired, and likely dehydrated as well. I thought I would get better as the day went on, but by lunch I had had too much. So, I came home for a long nap. That allowed me to enjoy taking Sean and Ethan out for dinner, and to watch a video with Cortney this evening.

Stomach Virus

September 29, 2005 on 7:02 pm | In Main | No Comments

Wouldn’t you know it, Sean had a stomach virus last night. How do I know? He continued to vomit after he went to bed, and then 8 hours later, I became sick. It wouldn’t have been so bad if that wasn’t in the middle of the night — I didn’t get any sleep at all. I’m still not off the antibiotic from my sinus infection from last week! (I am now by because I can’t keep it down.) Of course, I stayed home from work. I guess the timing is right, I had the same thing one year ago today.

Late update: Ethan may have the virus now.

I was surprised to see Sean call his grandfather in Florida, all on his own. I was in the bath room, and when I came out, Sean was talking on the speaker phone. I thought Sean had just answered, but he actually made the call himself. He carried on a pretty good conversation, too.

Cooler Weather

September 28, 2005 on 8:23 pm | In Main | No Comments

Temperatures dropped down to double digits today. Sean and I had a nice walk over to the hair place, so I could get a hair cut. While we were there, Sean had a great conversation with the woman who cut my hair. He was talking about his favorite DVD series, Popular Mechanics for Kids. I didn’t have much to add to the conversation.

Even though Sean did just fine for my hair cut, he turned into a vomiting machine just before bedtime. He was upset, but I kept reassuring him that we could clean it up without any problem. It wasn’t a pleasant task to clean up afterwards, but I did get it done.

Library Night

September 27, 2005 on 8:20 pm | In Main | No Comments

Ethan broke the string of good evenings at the library. He just wouldn’t sit still during story time. I ended up taking Ethan out of the story room, leaving Sean to watch the movie. Apparently, Sean enjoyed it, so Ethan missed out. I don’t know what Ethan’s problem is. Cortney said she had trouble with him during the day, although he was fine at dinner time. Maybe we just have a two year old about to turn three.

Unusual News at Work

September 26, 2005 on 9:02 pm | In Main | No Comments

My new boss is recovering from a serious bicycle accident, and will be out for some time. An interim leader was appointed in his place, but that still leaves me without any clear direction. At any rate, I hope my boss gets well soon.

Cortney brought her own slip and slide after Sean and Ethan enjoyed the one at the birthday party yesterday. It was a nice hot day, so it was a good time to use it.

Sean continues to do well in his gym class.

A Birthday Party

September 25, 2005 on 8:39 pm | In Main | No Comments

Today was the first time Sean has spent time with one of his schoolmates outside of school. He was invited to a birthday party, and we all went. Sean had a great time, and I could tell he was comfortable with his friends from school. Ethan played on his own for the most part, and once he found a train table, we had a hard time keeping him away from it.

After the birthday party was starting to wind down, the hosts brought out a water slide. Sean took to it right away, and it wasn’t long before he became an expert at sliding down the slide. Ethan had fun just trying to imitate the older kids. The downside was that we had two wet kids to bring home.

News Update: My parents are now back home in Houston, with no damage to their house.

A Day of Rest

September 24, 2005 on 10:35 pm | In Main | No Comments

Even though I’m feeling much better, I’m still on the strong antibiotic, so I took it easy today. I spent the morning and early afternoon watching Sean and Ethan while Cortney had her yard sale. I took a nap this afternoon, and didn’t do much for the remainder of the day.

Returning to Work

September 23, 2005 on 8:49 pm | In Main | No Comments

I felt good enough today to go into the office. I worked a full day, then took Sean and Ethan to McDonald’s. Sean and Ethan were a bit tired too, so we left a little early and did some shopping before we returned home. The promise of leftover birthday cake was more than enough to convince Sean and Ethan to behave for the evening, and they were duly rewarded.

Happy Birthday Cortney!

September 22, 2005 on 7:44 pm | In Main | No Comments

Today was Cortney’s birthday. I stayed home from work, but it wasn’t to help her celebrate; it was to recover from my sinus infection. Still, I was able to give Cortney a break from watching the kids, so I made her day a bit easier.

For the proper celebration, we went out to dinner at the cheesecake factory. Afterwards, we had cake and opened presents. Sean and Ethan gave Cortney an ice cream maker attachment for her KitchenAid mixer. I gave Cortney a shopping card good at all of the local malls.

On a more somber note, my brother and my parents have evacuated the Houston area, staying in a hotel suite in Austin. While I’m glad they are not risking their lives in the hurricane, it still can’t be much fun to be couped up in a hotel room and wondering if your house will be ok.

High Fever

September 21, 2005 on 8:01 pm | In Main | No Comments

I woke up this morning feeling terrible, and just to make sure my body wasn’t playing tricks on me, I checked my temperature. I was surprised to see it was 102! Needless to say, I immediately made a doctor’s appointment.

More than likely, I have another sinus infection. I still can’t believe how quickly this came on. I was just feeling fine yesterday. My fever even went up another degree to 103 as I was waiting for Cortney to fill my antibiotic prescription.

As miserable as I feel today, I feel even worse knowing that I won’t be up for doing much tomorrow, which is Cortney’s birthday.

Another Night at the Library

September 20, 2005 on 8:08 pm | In Main | No Comments

Sean has changed his interest from trains to Lego’s (Duplo). He likes to see how tall he can build a tower. He is very patient, rebuilding the taller as it falls. Ethan split his time between the train table and the Lego’s. Both Sean and Ethan enjoyed story time, and continuing a trend, Ethan sat still for the stories.

Energetic Kids

September 19, 2005 on 9:35 pm | In Main | No Comments

Sean and Ethan were full of energy when I arrived home from work. They were so wound up, they could not even sit still to eat dinner. I know part of the reason Ethan had so much energy; he was fully caught up on his sleep. He passed out around 5:00 PM last night, and even slept late today. At least Sean was able to work out some of his energy at the gym tonight.

Fun in the Pool

September 18, 2005 on 8:26 pm | In Main | No Comments

To help remedy the cooler pool water temperatures, I took Sean and Ethan into the pool in the middle of the afternoon. Sean doesn’t have a problem with the cool water, and he jumps right in. I had to sit in the sun to warm up first, but then was fine once I got in. Going out during the middle of the day turned out to be a good idea; Sean and I played for a long while, and even Ethan joined us in the pool. The bright sun and the cooler water was a good combination.

Ethan’s Underwear

September 17, 2005 on 9:10 pm | In Main | No Comments

Cortney and I decided it was time Ethan started wearing underwear. It took some convincing to get him to try a pair, but once he was in them, he did not want to take them off. Cortney took Ethan out to get some Thomas the Tank Engine underwear, and Ethan was real excited about that.

I tried to take Sean and Ethan in the pool, but it was a bit too chilly. Actually, the water was just 78 degrees, but that seemed like ice water compared to the warmer water we are used to. Sean and I did swim in the pool a bit, but then we quickly came in to warm up in the shower.

Friday Night with the Kids

September 16, 2005 on 9:45 pm | In Main | No Comments

I took Sean and Ethan to a different McDonald’s, one with a big play area, but no video games. I did not think Sean would be happy there, but it turns out he and Ethan had a great time playing with the other kids. They also both enjoyed an ice cream cone for dessert.
