Ethan’s Friend Thomas

November 15, 2005 on 8:07 pm | In Main | No Comments

Ethan told me today that Thomas (the Tank Engine) is his best friend. Then he told me that he wants to be Thomas. He certainly is fascinated with Thomas, and carries the toy Thomas with him everywhere.

Sean and Ethan were both well behaved at the library this evening, and we had a good time.

Sean Has Fun With Karate

Sean had fun with his karate class this evening. Sean was able to “fight” with foam sticks while balanced on a balance beam. Sean really enjoyed it.

Sean Learns to Throw A Frisbee

November 13, 2005 on 7:38 pm | In Main | No Comments

We had a really pleasant day today. I enjoyed doing the yard work this morning, and we made two trips to the park this afternoon.

On the second trip, I brought my sports disc (Frisbee) with us, with the intention of teaching Sean how to throw it. To my surprise, Sean picked it up right away, and we actually had a nice game of catch going. He made a few really good throws, with much more distance than I thought he would be capable of. It looks like this should be a regular activity for us.

Poor Ethan was really tired after the long day. After dinner, I had trouble finding Ethan. It turns out that he was curled up in his small chair, sound asleep. When I woke him up, he was still clutching a piece of toast from dinner in his hand!

A Trip to the Movies

November 12, 2005 on 10:09 pm | In Main | No Comments

We all went to the movies today, to see Chicken Little. This is the first time Ethan has been to the movie theater. Ethan liked his drink and his popcorn, but he said he did not like the movie. The movie at least caught his attention, and he sat quietly through the whole show.

The movie turned out to be a little too violent for Sean, and he was upset at a few of the scenes. Cortney and I were able to relax and watch the entire movie, which was nice.

Even if both kids had loved the movie, we still won’t be going back to the theater anytime soon. A trip to the movies for four including snacks is quite expensive.

We rounded out the day with a trip to the park, and going out to dinner.

TGIF

Cortney never had a chance to get tested for strep. Once the doctor found out Cortney was sick and her husband and two kids tested positive for strep, she was give an antibiotic prescription without the test.

Not much else is new today. We had cooler weather today, with highs only in the 70’s. Sean and Ethan missed dinner out tonight. I wanted to make sure they were no longer contagious. Ethan fell asleep right around dinner time, so I don’t think he even noticed.

This has been a long week for me, and I look forward to relaxing over the weekend.

Strep Family

November 10, 2005 on 9:02 pm | In Main | No Comments

Sean and Ethan both tested positive for strep. I can’t say I’m surprised. This means that Ethan was sick first, on Halloween. Sean and I both caught the strep form Ethan, and we both became sick around the same time, this past Saturday. Ethan likely picked it up from preschool.

Cortney gets tested tomorrow. She still thinks she doesn’t have it, but I would say that would be highly unlikely.

Sean missed his gym class this evening, and both kids will stay home from school tomorrow.

Don’t Get Sick on Saturdays

November 9, 2005 on 6:52 pm | In Main | No Comments

I found out this afternoon that I have strep throat. This was from the culture taken on Saturday, even though the rapid test taken at that time was negative. I wonder how many people I might have infected in the last three days. I’m glad it has been a quiet week at work so far; I have spent all the time so far in my office.

More than likely, the whole family has strep as well. Sean and Ethan will get tested tomorrow, and Cortney will get tested on Friday. It will be embarrassing to have to tell the schools that the kids in Sean and Ethan’s classrooms have been exposed to strep.

I actually thought I was feeling well. When I heard the news, I instantly felt worse. It’s amazing how the power of the mind affects how you feel. I will work from home tomorrow, then return on Friday, after the antibiotics have started to work.

Library Night

November 8, 2005 on 7:58 pm | In Main | No Comments

Despite the fact that Sean and Ethan were tired after dinner, we still went to the library for story time. We had trouble getting dressed and getting into the library, but once we were in, Sean and Ethan had a good time. And, as a bonus, one of Sean’s friends showed up, so Sean and some company.

Cortney’s Sick

November 7, 2005 on 7:22 pm | In Main | No Comments

Cortney has now caught what Sean and I had. She will probably be in for a rough day or two, then be fine after that. I went to work today, but came home early to watch Sean and Ethan while Cortney rested.

Feeling Better

November 6, 2005 on 7:45 pm | In Main | No Comments

I realized I have been sick too often when I saw that I have already used the title of this post before. Still, it fits. I felt good enough today to go outside and clean the pool and pull some weeds. Sean seemed to be feeling much better today as well.

A Tough Day

November 5, 2005 on 10:44 pm | In Main | No Comments

I woke up this morning feeling terrible. So bad, in fact, that I took Sean and Ethan with me to the urgent care place (Cortney had her yard sale this morning). After waiting three hours, all I learned was that the doctor thought my illness was viral.

Sean seemed fine this morning, but then he had a fever this afternoon, and took a rare nap.

Hopefully, tomorrow will be a better day.

Sean and I Are Sick

November 4, 2005 on 6:00 pm | In Main | No Comments

Our trip to McDonald’s did not last long this evening. Sean did not want to play, and did not want to eat. Sean complained his stomach is bothering him, and he might have a fever as well. We came home after just a half hour.

I was glad to come home early. I have a bit of a fever, but no other symptoms yet. Ethan might have had the same thing last week, and it did not seem to bother him much, so I am hopeful I won’t get too sick.

Another Slow News Day

November 3, 2005 on 9:11 pm | In Main | No Comments

Not much to report today. Cortney watched two other kids while their mom went to the doctor, so Sean and Ethan had playmates today. This was good for Cortney, since today was an early release day for Sean. This evening, Sean had another good gym class.

Sean Learns to Read

Sean is doing well in his phonetics, and is able to piece together words from the letter sounds. He is doing fairly well with the starter books.

No Trip to the Library

November 1, 2005 on 7:23 pm | In Main | No Comments

Sean was tired and cranky this evening, and so we missed our trip to the library. I took advantage of the time to make some chocolate ice cream mix for our ice cream machine. It should be quite tastey.
