Silhouette
February 15, 2006 on 7:54 pm | In Main | No CommentsEthan’s school did silhouettes this morning, and Cortney took Sean as well. Sean is on the left.
Sean Does a Pullover
February 14, 2006 on 7:35 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean continues to do well in his gym class. This evening, he performed an unassisted pullover for the first time. This is where he hangs from the bar, and throws his legs in front and over the top of the bar, ending up with his legs down, his hip on the bar, and with his arms straight holding up his weight. Even Sean’s gym instructor is impressed with Sean’s progress.
Just before gym class, I worked with Sean on his numbers. He knows how to make all the numbers, with the possible exception of the number 2, but I had him practice so his numbers become neater. His numbers looked much better after just a little bit of practice.
Sean Learns Self Defense
February 13, 2006 on 7:49 pm | In Main | No CommentsTonight’s Karate class was about self-defense techniques. Sean was in the back row, so I could not see how he did, but he seemed to enjoy the class.
Sean and Ethan Playing in the Yard
February 12, 2006 on 7:44 pm | In Picture of the Week | No CommentsThis week’s picture of the week shows Sean and Ethan playing in the yard on the jungle gym. Sean is having fun, but Ethan is not presenting his best side. Note to Cortney: take more pictures!
Mythbusters
February 12, 2006 on 7:30 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean likes the Mythbusters show on the Discovery Channel. This is the only adult show that he will watch. The Discovery channel was running something of a marathon of shows today, so Sean and I watched Mythbusters from late afternoon until it was time for him to go to bed.
It was a good thing too, as I was busy for most of the day running my end of the week chores, and did not have as much time to spend with Sean and Ethan as I would like.
Family Movie Day
February 11, 2006 on 10:32 pm | In Main | No CommentsWe had a bit of a rough start today. Ethan fell onto the tile floor, and split his chin. I was worried by the amount of blood, but the cut was neither wide nor deep, so he should heal with no problems.
The big event for the day was a trip to the movies. We all went to see the new Curious George movie, and both Sean and Ethan loved it.
We also went out to dinner, and then had fun at the mall afterwards.

A Night at the Park
February 10, 2006 on 8:11 pm | In Main | No CommentsRather than spend the night at the fast food joint, I took Sean and Ethan through the drive through, then went to a nearby park for a picnic dinner and time on the playground. I knew Sean and Ethan were going to have fun when they weren’t interested in eating, preferring to play instead. And, the weather was perfect, with temperatures right around 70, no clouds, and little wind.
All of us were tired when we came home. Even I will go to bed early tonight.
Good To Be Home
February 9, 2006 on 10:04 pm | In Main | No CommentsLong day today. I left Toronto just before noon, and arrived home just a little while ago. I have to say I really like the weather here. It felt great to be outdoors again with comfortable temperatures.
I’m looking forward to a weekend of activities with Cortney, Sean and Ethan. I will be putting in a full day tomorrow, but I should get through that with no problem. In the meantime, rest.
Caribou Dinner
February 8, 2006 on 8:46 pm | In Main | No CommentsAfter a busy day of meetings, my group went out for a nice dinner. I ordered caribou, which I thought was a rather unusual menu item. The joke among my table mates was if there were any shiny red parts (Rudolph the reindeer). It turns out that Canada has caribou farms, so I was not eating game meat. Still, the meat had an unusual taste.
I have another half day of meetings, then I leave to come back home. I can’t wait to see Sean and Ethan again.
Hello From the Frozen North
February 7, 2006 on 3:28 pm | In Main | No CommentsThis post arrives via Toronto, Canada, where I will be staying for a couple of days. Even though I had a connecting flight, the trip up here was not too bad.
There is a light cover of snow on the ground, and the temperature is just below freezing, which is not too bad. The low tonight will be 15 degrees, but I will be prepared with a heavy coat. Not like 20 below temperatures I have experienced in Montreal.
I had to leave early this morning to catch my flight, and apparently, I woke the kids up early. I would imagine Sean and Ethan will tire themselves out early this evening, but sometimes getting there can be rough. My sympathies go out to Cortney this evening.
Double Night for Sean
February 6, 2006 on 8:02 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean did a make up gym class today, then he did his karate class. That was enough to keep me busy, and I know Sean is sure tired now.
Sean continues to do well in his beginner boys class. Today, he swung from the high bar on the uneven bars. He was able to get to the bar by climbing up on a pad first. He came down the easy way, by dropping to the floor.
Karate class is more of a challenge to Sean. Everything he is learning is new, and I wonder if it is not overwhelming. He seems to be having a good time, though.
Yard Work and the Superbowl
February 5, 2006 on 8:16 pm | In Main | No CommentsI did the first heavy yard work in several months today. I mainly trimmed back the rose bushes and palo verde tree, but I also cleaned up some of the leaf trash all over the yard. I finished in time to watch the last bit of the Superbowl pre-game show.
Cortney and I had a tough time with the kids today. Between the yard work and the Superbowl game, they did not get much attention from me. I will have to make up for that next weekend.
Sean Rides His Truck
February 5, 2006 on 8:11 pm | In Picture of the Week | No CommentsLast week’s picture of the week could have been interpreted to be less then flattering to Sean, so I picked a picture of Sean just simply having fun riding his truck for this week’s picture of the week.
1980s Arcade Game
February 4, 2006 on 10:33 pm | In Main | No CommentsI spent most of the day relaxing, trying to recover from the previous week. The best part of the day was playing Galaga, a video game from the 1980’s. Sean just loves the game, and he is getting quite good at. We spent quite a bit of time playing the game between the two of us, with Ethan watching. Other than perhaps playing Uno, this is probably the first time Sean and I have enjoyed a common activity together on an even level.
