Possibly Sick
May 6, 2006 on 8:02 pm | In Main | No CommentsI think I have caught what the kids have suffered with. Normally, I would say it is just allergies, but I don’t usually get chest congestion from allergies. It doesn’t bother me much except that I feel tired and run down. Part of that was just not having anything planned for the day, so I just took it easy.
We went out to a new restaurant this evening. It’s a gourmet Italian fast food restaurant, and the food was good. We went out afterwards and bought some new curtains for the master bedroom, then went to get the kids hair cut, so it was a successful outing.
Sean and Ethan both were tired and cranky by the time we came home, but they both looked cute in their new haircuts, so I took it easy on them when I put them to bed.
Good Times
May 5, 2006 on 9:54 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean and Ethan had a fun night at Burger King. Neither one got into any trouble, at least not until it was time to go, and they did not want to leave.
I had a good day at work today, and a good week for that matter. So I guess this is a good evening for feeling good.
A Night for Relaxing
May 4, 2006 on 9:02 pm | In Main | No CommentsI drove down to Tucson for the day, so I am a bit tired this evening. On the way back home I had to drive through two accidents. I still was able to enjoy a swim in the pool with Sean, but that’s about all I did this evening.
Ethan doesn’t like the cold water of the pool, but he likes coming out to watch Sean and me. Sean and Ethan don’t always get along, but Ethan definitely looks up to his older brother.
Weird Highway Driving
May 3, 2006 on 8:12 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean and I saw an unusual incident on the way home from the gym. We were behind a few cars on the entrance ramp to the freeway. The first car was a highway patrolman, and he turned on his lights just as he pulled onto the freeway. A short distance later, the patrolman was swerving between all three lanes of the highway in an apparent attempt to slow down the traffic. After a while, the patrolman actually stopped in the middle lane, got out of his car, walked over to the lead car in the right lane, and said something to the driver. He then got back into his car, lights still on, and pulled off on the next exit ramp. The only explanation I can think of is that the patrolman was upset that the cars did not give him enough room, as if no one on the highway was actually trying to get anywhere. I’m all for the highway patrol trying to improve safety, but this seemed like a dangerous stunt to me, with no positive effect on anyone involved.
Sean had another good gym class, despite his tiredness from his allergies. On the rings, Sean swung back and forth until he wound up in an inverted position, with barely any help from the instructor.
Sean is Tired?
May 2, 2006 on 8:54 pm | In Main | No CommentsI was surprised to see Sean tired and almost falling asleep on the couch when I came home from work. He did not wake up particularly early today, so that was not the cause of his tiredness. Sean almost fell asleep on the car trip over to his gym class, and I was almost ready to turn around and go home, when I thought I would just see how Sean would do. It turns out that Sean was fine once he joined up with the other boys in the class. On the way home, Sean again almost fell asleep. At least putting Sean to bed was easy.
My guess is there is a good chance Sean is suffering from allergies, or perhaps he is fighting off whatever Ethan had week or two ago. My bet would be allergies. I have learned from past experience that when the jacarandas are in bloom, we are at the height of the allergy season.
Innocence Lost
May 1, 2006 on 6:26 pm | In Main | No CommentsSean has finally learned about name calling, and Ethan quickly picked up too. Sean’s new insult is the word “butthead”, which he apparently picked up from one of his classmates. There are worse words he could have picked up, but “butthead” still does not sound nice coming out of the mouth of a six year old. Cortney and I might have been better off not overreacting, as our efforts to stop the words usage have not been successful so far.
In other news, today was the hottest day of the year so far, at 99 degrees. The pool water has warmed up to 76 degrees, which is approaching swimmable temperatures. I was at least able to stay in the water for more than ten minutes.
Last night, someone decided our old lawn furniture was too tempting to pass by, as they picked it up before the regular loose trash pickup. I actually like the idea of someone else getting use out of the furniture, rather than just having it take up room in a landfill.
