The Big Weekend Starts

June 30, 2006 on 9:08 pm | In Main | No Comments

I did not get as much done as I wanted to today, but at least it is the start of a four day weekend. I did make myself a nice cheeseburger meal on the grill.

We have had dust storms the last few nights, but this evening’s storm had a bit more wind and some lightning as well. I’m sure I’ll be fishing leaves and debris from the pool tomorrow.

Feeling Lonely

June 29, 2006 on 7:57 pm | In Main | No Comments

I’ve been trying to keep myself busy, so that I am not focusing on being alone in a big house, but it’s hard not to think about how much livelier it would be with Cortney and the kids here.

Slow Day

Not much news to report today. Sean is running a low fever in Florida, so I hope he doesn’t get sick.

A Nice Swim in the Pool

June 27, 2006 on 8:29 pm | In Main | No Comments

I was able to finally enjoy a nice swim in the pool this evening. The pool water was slightly cloudy, but the pool is no longer green. For a while, it looked like my swim might be threatened by a thunderstorm, as dark clouds were approaching, but the storm fizzled out with nothing more than some blowing dust.

The Pool Improves

June 26, 2006 on 6:26 pm | In Main | No Comments

I woke up this morning, and checked on the pool. The water is very cloudy, with only a slight tint of green. As far as I can tell there is no new algae growth. I call this an improvement. I actually went into the water this evening, mainly to use the hand brush to reach the places the pole brush could not.

I’m looking forward to some real swimming later on this week.

A Busy Day

June 25, 2006 on 8:54 pm | In Main | No Comments

First thing this morning, I decided to tackle the Wal Mart trip, as I needed to stock up on groceries. That’s when Cortney goes, and I can see why, as it wasn’t too crowded.

I tackled the yard work next. I was starting to think the heat wasn’t too bad, but after three hours of yard work, and a break for lunch, I felt like passing out from exhaustion. Which I did, sort of, as I took a decent afternoon nap.

After the nap, I did my workout, as I needed to do something about the sore muscles from yesterday’s attempted run. 45 minutes on the exercise bike took care of that.

I fixed my self a nice dinner to end the day. Or almost. The pool is still green, and the more chemicals I add, the greener it gets. Or at least it seems that way. I’m more than a bit frustrated with this. The only thing enjoyable about the Phoenix heat is relaxing in the pool, and right now, the pool looks like a toxic waste dump. The chemicals I added this morning said they would clear the algae in 24 hours, and going on 12, there is no effect. So I added a couple of gallons of liquid chlorine for good measure. At this point, it seems like it would almost be easier to pump the green water into the street, and start over with fresh water. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that tomorrow the pool will be on the way to recovery.

Odds and Ends

Today was a bit of an odd day. I woke up at five in the morning to go running. I actually had company, as many people try to get out early to beat the hot sun during the day. Unfortunately, my legs were to stiff from yesterday’s work out on the stationary bike to get in a good run.

I managed to get some small stuff done and even a little bit of shopping, but I took it easy for most of the day. I expect to get a bit more done tomorrow.

The Pool Turns Green Again

June 23, 2006 on 8:11 pm | In Main | No Comments

I was unable to swim in the pool after my evening workout, because it has turned green again. Apparently, it doesn’t take much algae to overwhelm the filter cartridge, at which point there is not much to do except add more chemicals. The pool water was so green that I had no desire to go in.

Not much else is new today. I haven’t heard from Cortney yet; she was supposed to go the beach today.

I Miss Sean and Ethan

June 22, 2006 on 8:21 pm | In Main | No Comments

I can tell I am starting to miss Sean and Ethan. Our two cats, Floppy and Zip, started fighting this evening, and I started to scold them. I started thinking they needed a time-out.

I hope to get some pictures of the Disney World trip up soon. As soon as Cortney can send them to me.

The Longest Day of the Year

June 21, 2006 on 8:13 pm | In Main | No Comments

Today is the longest day in of the year, in terms of sunlight. And this morning, I slept through the first three hours of it.

My flight into Phoenix last night landed on time, and I made good time getting home. Despite that, it was still close to midnight before I went to bed. This morning, I decided to just sleep in, rather than feeling tired all day long. I had to attend a conference call from home, but when into work after that.

It was strange waking up to a quite house. I’m more used to the loud voices of the kids early in the morning. I suppose by the time Cortney and the kids return next month, I will be use to the quiet house.

I have a long list of projects that I want to get done while they are gone. Right now, it just seems like so much needs to get done right away, I’m having trouble getting started. I’m hoping that will change once I recover from the Florida trip.

Back to Arizona

I was going to wait until I arrived home before I wrote this, but I think there is a good chance one of my flights might be delayed, so I don’t know for sure if I will make it home tonight.

We slept in this morning, then drove back down to West Palm Beach. I’m already packed, and I’m just relaxing until it’s time to leave for the airport.

The Magic Kingdom

June 19, 2006 on 4:00 pm | In Main | No Comments

Disney does not have free internet access, so I am backdating this post to the date the events actually occurred.

Today was the day we went to the Magic Kingdom park. We gave a priority to sleeping in and eating a good breakfast over getting to the park on time, but we made it there only a half hour after opening, which wasn’t too bad. The late night swim really tired out the kids, so they slept well.

Unlike yesterday, it was hot, and the park was also very crowded. We planned our day around the fast-pass tickets, to avoid the long lines.

Sean’s favorite ride was Space Mountain. Ethan says he liked the Haunted House ride the best, but I think he enjoyed the Thunder Mountain Railroad ride. Ethan sat next to me on the ride. During the middle of the ride, I asked Ethan if he was scared. He replied with a good roller coaster yell, so I he obviously enjoyed it.

We were able to see almost everything we wanted at the Magic Kingdom, and we lasted until 9:00 at night. The kids were real troopers, but I knew they were just having fun.

I let Cortney relax in the room while I took the kids in the hotel pool. The slide was closed by the time we got there, but we still had fun in the pool.

The Animal Kingdom Park

Disney does not have free internet access, so I am backdating this post to the date the events actually occurred.

We left Cortney’s parents house early in the morning. We drove through some heavy rain on the way to Orlando, but this turned out to be a blessing in disguise. The rain cooled everything off, and so we had a nice pleasant day on the first day of our trip to Disney World.

We went to the Animal Kingdom park today. We met one of Cortney’s Florida friends, along with her husband and 18 month old. As soon as we went into the park, we went straight to the dinosaur section. They did not have much there in the way of rides, but the kids liked the dinosaur dig themed play area.

The hit of the park was the Mount Everest ride. Ethan was not tall enough, but Sean was. Sean was more afraid of the yeti in the ride than the roller coaster park. The adults had to take turns watching the kids, but we all made it on the ride.

The kids tired out around 6:00 in the evening, which left us time to go back to the hotel and use the big pool there. They had a nice slide in the pool, which Sean really liked.

Safe in Florida

June 17, 2006 on 7:40 am | In Main | No Comments

We arrived at our destination (Cortney’s parents) just before midnight last night, which was actually earlier than I expected.

Sean and Ethan were well behaved on the plane. The three of us sat together, while Cortney was in her own seat. I did not even have a problem with the two kids until we started our approach into West Palm Beach. At this point the combined excitement of landing in Florida and the tiredness of the two flights kicked in. Still, after the easy time I had up until this point, I had enough patience to make it until we exited the plane.

Our luggage was out by the time we made it to the baggage claim area. Cortney and I were concerned after last year, where our luggage did not make it. We easily made it to the bus to the rental car area, and we dropped off right by the car, which was convenient. And, late at night, we had no traffic.

The kids woke up a bit early, considering when they went to sleep, but they don’t seem tired (at least at the time of this writing).

We went out to breakfast this morning, and we plan to take it easy for the day. First thing tomorrow, morning, we will drive up to Disney World.
