Bring on 2008

December 31, 2007 on 11:34 pm | In Main | No Comments

This might be the last day of 2007, but other than a nice dinner, it wasn’t much to write about. Cortney’s parents invited us and my parents out to dinner, and we had a good time.

We kept Sean up until 10:00 PM, so that he could watch the ball drop in New York City. I still don’t think he understood the time zone thing.

Vacation’s Almost Over

December 30, 2007 on 10:47 pm | In Main | No Comments

Just two days left for my vacation. I spent most of the weekend working on cleaning up bills and paperwork. Unfortunately, I have been putting this off for just too long, so even though I put a dent in the work, there is still plenty more to do. I believe I know have a workable system, so if I can just complete the initial cleanup, I should be able to maintain the system.

Snow Day

December 27, 2007 on 9:53 pm | In Main | No Comments

Cortney and I took the kids back to Flagstaff to play in the snow. Unlike last time, there was plenty of snow, but there were also some icy spots on the sled trails. That made for some fast sledding, but for painful bounces and crashes. I have a number of bruises, but sledding with Sean was lots of fun.

Unfortunately, Ethan did not have fun again. I took him down once on the sled with me, and sent him down a small hill by himself, but he did not enjoy it.

Boxing Day, 2007

I didn’t want to get involved in shopping today. Cortney went out first thing this morning with my mom. She got home late in the morning, and wanted help with the returns. I also needed to exchange a pair of snow pants. We ended up making two shopping trips, with a break for lunch in between.

The stores were all crowded, but the only lines we experienced were at Kohl’s.

Christmas Day, 2007

December 25, 2007 on 10:38 pm | In Main | No Comments

My parents and grandmother arrived early this morning, so we all could participate in opening presents. The big present this year was the Wii game console. I have a feeling Cortney and I and the kids will all be using it quite a bit in the next few days.

With some help, we successfully hosted the Christmas dinner. As usual, I did the turkey and stuffing, and both turned out well.

Christmas Eve Fun

Today was quite enjoyable. Leslie and Corky took Sean and Ethan to the park this afternoon, leaving Cortney and I alone to relax. We both ended up taking naps.

I had some last minute Christmas shopping to do, but I went early and beat the crowds.

The kids ended the evening with a reading of The Night Before Christams, and I am working on brining the turkey for tomorrow’s dinner. Cortney is busy placing presents under the tree.

Guests

Cortney’s parents arrived today from Florida. We picked them up just before noon, and I had enough time to do some more digging by my wall before we all went over to my parents for dinner. Sean and Ethan behaved well for dinner, and we all had a good time.

Sandy, our new cat, had her first full run of the house. We had been keeping her in the upstairs bathroom so that she could slowly get used to our house and are other cats. Sandy seems to be doing well, and she likes the cat tower we have upstairs.

Outdoor Work Day

December 22, 2007 on 10:11 pm | In Main | No Comments

Today, I began digging under the foundation of the cement block wall at the back corner of the pool area. I had two bottle trees removed earlier this year because they were damaging the wall. It took me an hour of digging before I found any significant roots, but then I found a big one. It was six inches in diameter, and was clearly the root responsible for damaging the wall. I had to go out an ax to remove the root. I didn’t finish, as all the work was making my back sore, and I did not want to overdue it.

Holiday Time?

December 21, 2007 on 10:34 pm | In Main | No Comments

Today didn’t quite seem like a day off; I had to finish up a few items for the year today. We also had to deal with having the house cleaned, and taking Princess and Zip to the vet for yearly exams. With all that out of the way, I’m starting to get into the holiday mood.

A Busy Day

December 20, 2007 on 8:48 pm | In Main | No Comments

Today was pretty busy for a vacation day. I had my car serviced this morning. Today was also a half school day, and I went with Cortney to both drop the kids off and pick them up. This evening was gym class, and the rest of the day was filled in by straightening the house for the cleaners, who come tomorrow since they regularly scheduled day falls on Christmas.

Cortney Gets An Early Christmas Present

December 19, 2007 on 11:28 pm | In Main | No Comments

Cortney told me what she really wanted for Christmas was another cat, so we got one. With three cats, I guess our house is now officially a cattery. Our new cat is named Sandy, because of the color of her fur. She is friendly with everyone in the family, but she hasn’t met any of other pets yet, as we have her in the upstairs bathroom until she gets used to the house.

Done with Work

I’m done working for the year, at least on the clock. I still have a few things to finish, which I will do from home.

Is it Christmas Yet?

Here’s the picture we waited in line for this past Saturday.

Santa2007

Santa and Bunco

December 15, 2007 on 10:41 pm | In Main | No Comments

This morning, we went to the outlet mall, mainly with the intention of having a picture of the kids with Santa. My mom joined us as well. We arrived just after the stores opened at 9:00 AM, but Santa’s hut did not open until 11:00 AM. Even at 11:00, it was still cold out, and we shivered while waiting in line, while my mom waited indoors at the nearby food court. At least out kids smiled when it was our turn with Santa. The couple in front of us had to walk away after their two year old daughter cried whenever she went anywhere near Santa. With the long wait in the cold weather, I think I would have cried too.

This evening, I went to a couple’s Bunco event. This was my first time at Bunco. The game wasn’t much of a challenge, but I could see the social aspects of the event.

A Slow Day

I took the full day off today, and pretty much took it easy.
